Hi Folks
Anyone here had personal experience of using a sand spear on a beach for water extraction. 12 volt or manual.
Interested in any links etc. Looking at doing a remote bush trip in the Top End late in the dry. Will carry plenty of
drinking water but need water for washing etc.
Thanks
Lyndon

We used to use one beach camping years ago, it was the inlaws and ran a 12V pump to extract the water for the shower set up. We actually then ran it through an instantaneous gas hot water system (similar to a Joolca Hot Tap), was fantastic for our group of 5 or 6 families that'd
camp together for 2 weeks at a time and run the one communal shower. Biggest issue we had was matching 12V pump water flow rates for the spear aswell as the hot water system, in the end we ran 2 X 12V pumps that were different flow rates, one that pumped water from the spear into a large water drum, and then a smaller flow rated pump that pumped from the drum into the shower set up via the gas hot water unit. The drum would fill faster then the shower used the water, so it'd overflow back into the sand which wasn't an issue at all for us. The set up we used worked fantastic, and only used just over a 9kg bottle of gas for our large groups showers over a 2 week period. We used to dig a hole down to the water table in the sand and locate the spear that way, we'd fill the hole back in and leave the spear pretty much buried for 2 weeks so it w.asn't easily stolen.
