Hey everyone,
If you are considering experimenting with Tred see my experience below.
I've recently spent a very boggy weekend away up the
vic high country and gave the treds an absolute workout.
I did put them through their paces and they got thrashed. But you would expect them to stand up to the
test.
Well, there looking pretty average already.
Mate of mine has maxtrax and his look good as gold. A perfect example on why you pay twice when you go cheap. So i've lashed out and got Maxtrax. Should have gone quality in the first place.
Found a coupon code to save 5% that included FREE shipping if anyone is in the market. At least I got one win! lol

Hi DMAX001, Yes you can burn the top off the nodules if you spin your wheels too much, seen the same thing happen to Maxtrax as
well. Slow & steady is the way to go when using recovery boards to extract yourself. There is a new model TRED out that has hardened nodules, but the same applies, slow & steady.
Macca.

Totally agree, slow and steady with any of the recovery boards is the go. My TREDS are 4 yrs old and pulled me out of the proverbial many times and are still good.

You can buy replacement nodules for max trax, they screw in where the old one has gone missing. Look on Ebay.

The Treds I had worked
well for me. :) Admittedly, I went through five iterations of shifting sand, placing the Treds, moving forward, and getting stuck again. But I think that was more due to the depth, angle, and temperature of the sand than the quality of the Treds.

Look hard, you'll see a pair of treds in those deep wheel ruts :)

Maybe even 4x4 Sprinters shouldn't tackle deep sand? Thank heavens for the Treds & spade

I'd check under your truck for sand rash ;) looks like you might have been dragging the tail a bit.

Hi Candace
That looks like an interesting sandy track. If you do not mind, can you let us know where it was?
Cheers

What sort of tyre pressure were you running in sand ? Dry sand is always a good
test of your vehicles limits the type of tyres you run and pressures their set at but looking at the 1st
pic you didn't get far before it bogged down and dragged the rear diff..

This was a spur off the Lake Side Track (I think that was the name) at
Coongie Lakes National Park. In particular, the first spur you come to as you drive that road. I drove out there mid-day, so all this sand action happened on a north-facing slope in the mid-afternoon.
Indeed, I did have the vehicle basically "high-centered" at one point. So LOTS of digging that time. Not only in front of the wheels but also to clear the sand from the rear diff and that end of the drive shaft. Thank goodness I also had a full-sized spade to do all this!
I did drop the tyre pressure quite a bit while taking a few runs at this. Since they were warmed up by this time of the day, it was a bit of a guessing game what to drop them to. When I checked them the following morning (after a night in the
camping area at the main road's end), they were down around 20 psi IIRC.
While shoveling all this sand, I had an epiphany regarding my interest in doing the
Simpson Desert, LOL...

Candace,
I have crossed the Simpson a number of times in a heavily loaded Troopy without needing the shovel. I always drop to 18psi all round at the start and only once, at the end of a hot day, did I need to go lower to 15psi.
The
Ranger at
Dalhousie Springs told me that he runs at 15psi all the time, but he is not loaded.
If faced with unknown soft sand conditions I figure that it is best to start low rather than discover the true condition by becoming bogged then having to extract oneself.

I could tell you exactly the same story in reverse (not the car, you fools!). Last year in the S.A. Mallee Country we caught some terrible mud. My Treds were excellent, mate ruined his Maxtrax. I think it's all in how you use them.
My Treds are now 4 years old, used them from
Cape York to
Coffin Bay (not always for myself- but I'm very careful who I lend them to and how they use them).
Cheers,
Mark

The original treds were admittedly rubbish my pair cracked right down the middle on the first use.
Then i bought maxtrax and the lugs wore off.
I cant reccomend the new style treds enough though, mine have worked a treat. I have the arb stlye one and so far after 2 weekends of mud recoverys the lugs havnt worn off and they havnt cracked which was my problems with the old treds and maxtrax.
Also they are abit easier use as shovels might just be me though ?.
Cheers Jed

If you burnt the lugs off, you aren't using them correctly.
Spin the wheels and you''ll melt the lugs on any trax.
They even mold in a warning on the surface about this.

Treds have a lifetime warranty if used properly.
Tred warranty
Sounds like an obvious case of spam to me. When do we see the photos?
Anyone in the market for some should consider the new Tred Pros developed in collaboration with ARB apparently.

Maybe but I think not Bonz. It's also possible that his mate knows how to use his Maxtrax while DMAX001 struggles but I think the whole thing is a concocted marketing exercise. New poster, the language, the lack of detail of his supposed experience with Treds is a dead giveaway. "Experimenting", lol. Classic clickbait.

I also thought of a marketing ploy when I read it.
It seems that something like this post pops up every so often that causes you to pause for a moment or so.
Or am I getting cynical in my old age ?

Speaking of Maxtrax....Spotted Mr Maxtrax stretched 6 wheel 79 series Landcruiser out at Tobermory Station on The
Plenty Highway last week. No idea what time he arrived in at
camp, but it was around 9p.m when I went to bed and he wasn't there then, woke to found him parked across from us.
