Hi Guys, I am driving from Cairns to Perth next week and will take the great central road. Has anyone driven this very recently and can give me an update on the road conditions. Thanks.

I drove it in mid may, most of it was ok, usual mix of good and not so good.

About 100k ?? k's from Laverton they are upgrading a mine and the traffic has broken the road surface, quite sandy in parts with ore road trains and new equipment all over the place.

I drive a stock standard Prado and averaged about 60-65k most of the way.

No real problems, typical cross country gravel highway

Fuel is expensive, fill everything up at Alice Springs.

Erldunda was dearer, Yulara was dearer again and the GCR dearer again.

Just a follow up on this, as I don't record any prices I am only going on memory but Erldunda Shell diesel was 1.99 and Yulara was $2.09 and thinking about it, they were the dearest.
Check on Laverton prices, I think they were cheaper than that.
If coming along the Donohue/Plenty we thought Tobermory was nicer than Jervois and Gemtree was freezing, minus 2 when we were there last year

Hi Guys,

I know fuel prices can vary from place to place, and can change rapidly, but last year when we drove the GCR, fuel prices were as follows:
Erldunda: 177.9 cpl
Yulara: 183.9 cpl
Docker River: 240.0 cpl
Warbuton: 206.0 cpl
Laverton: 164.9 cpl
Kalgoorlie: 131.9 cpl.

These were last years prices, but I think the difference in price between each site would be much the same today.

Erldunda is currently about $2.02 for diesel I think it was, Yulara is $2.16.

We travelled 2 sections of the GCR recently, Geosmurf.

On 12/06/18, we drove from Parallel Road No.2 west to Tjukarayla, then to David Carnegie Junction. This was good to excellent.

On 2/07/18, we drove from Sandy Blight Junction to Yulara. Plenty of corrugations, and a few too short good sections. Drop your tyre pressures is the go.
