Good afternoon all,
Has anyone travelled the full length of the Gary Highway (not to be confused with the
Gary Junction Rd)
this year or know of any other vehicles that have?
I will be on it 2nd week of August. Not concerned about washouts or corrugations. My interest is on how much spinifex is on the track and soft ground at
Lake Cohen.
Any report of the
David Carnegie Road also would be appreciated.
Regards,
Dave

Travelled both in full a few weeks a ago Dave.
There is a lot of spinifex at the moment, not sure how much will be there mid August.
The stainless mesh I fitted between my nudge bar and upper shadecloth worked good keeping it out of my cores up front, but underneath it was a good clean every few hours as my trans cross member acted like a guillotine and packed above my transfer case bash plate very efficiently, like a
hay bailing machine.
Lake Cohen was fine and had a good amount of water, but the OSM track was all fine to drive (on the upper lake flats, and coincidentally provides an excellent spot to clean out spinifex :) ;)
As you guessed, both tracks are slow, as was Connie Sue, lots of what you mentioned, and encroaching vegetation.
We saw some awesome sights along the drive, most spectacular where the actual
Breaden Bluff caves, and if you are going that way,
Neale Breakaways.
Enjoy.

Hi Les,
Thank you for taking the time to reply and for the up to date info.
I was concerned about the
Lake Cohen area due to the rain on the CSR
that may have ventured in that direction.
Had a suspicion travellers going to the muster at Desert Queen Baths
may have ventured that way.
I'm coming
home via the Anne Beadell so will
check out
Neale Breakaways.
Thanks,
Dave

We had to detour around the edge of
Lake Cohen early last year and found the surrounding ground pretty solid being mainly pebbley dirt.
