It really depends on what you want to do and see, it is a bit like how long is a piece of string, having said that and having been up the the Cape 40+ times, id say barest minimum 2 weeks, hope that helps.

I've done it in 4 days. Someone else was paying the bills and about all we stopped for was burgers and coffee.

I've also done Cairns to the tip and back in 2 weeks and that felt rushed.

How much time do you have? You can drive hard and just tick off the boxes of seeing stuff, or take your time and experience it.

I did it the 2nd time using 3 weeks from Brisbane. It was a bit of a mach run each way, with two very long days (Brissy-Cairns and back again) with the kids and me as the only driver/cook/navigator/logistics co-ordinator and OIC Camp.

We saw a fair bit, but would have like to stop for a day or two longer at a few stops on the beaches.

Only been once. Took 6 weeks on the Cape and it was not nearly enough.

Cheers,
