Have just come off the Great Central Road and thought travellers contemplating this route might like an update. Travelling west to east, Laverton to "Chooka-yer-la" roadhouse, can't remember how to spell it, road was rough but quite O.K. "Chooka-yer-la to Warburton roadhuse like a 4 lane highway with much of it sealed and more being reformed and sealed as at now. Warburton to Warakurna Roadhouse mostly O.K. but the last 100 kilometres are unbelievably bad. Deep corrugations across the entire width of the road and very close together making it impossible at any speed. Even the water-table. where everyone is driving is full of corrugations. Last 100 k's took over 4 hours. From there to Docker River fair, after Docker River good surface most of the way but quite deep sand drifts on road. Came across two cyclist at Yulara that had taken 20 days to do the trip having to push their bikes for 50 k's through the sand from Docker River. The scenery was pretty ordinary with no wildlife. On the entire run saw only the rear end of one camel and one dingo pup and one adult dingo in the campground at Warakurna. Happy travelling.

We came of the GCR 10 days ago...we did the entire Outback Way, Boulia to Laverton, towing a 3.2 tonne Off Road Caravan. While I agree with most of your comments, the last 100 km was not unbelievably bad. Yes it's corrugated and has to be driven with a lot of concentration, the Plenty Highway section between Tobermorey and Jervois Stations is 3 times worse and includes long deep sections of bulldust as well as corrugations etc. We were a bit luckier than you seeing a couple of mobs of camels, a pack of wild dogs, definitely not dingos...and little else.
