In line batteries

Have 4x 12v 28ah batteries sitting doing nothing. What is the best way to wire them in parallel? They are going into the van connected to either a 10 or 20 watt solar panel to maintain them until I can use the van again. Bill

I suggest that a "10 or 20 watt solar panel" is too big unless regulated.
5 watts would be plenty and 2 watts would be enough.
If they are AGMs they are good for at least 6 months with nothing, if disconnected from all loads.

.
G'day Bill,

The best way to connect batteries in parallel is per the diagram below.
Note that the take-offs are diagonal.
In this way the cable resistance to each battery is equal and each battery will contribute as equal current as possible.
Cheers

Unless the loads are very high or the cables too small, most methods are OK.
The best method is the "star" method (google it) that involves taking equal length cables from each battery to a single point connection.
