Yes, not only it is possible, but you can also drive chosen sections of the Old Telegraph Track as I did and enjoy it:

Yes, if you have no option but to do that in 10 days, then you will achieve to goal of the cape / tip at least.
Better than never having enough time to do it at all.
Have opened your blog page , and will have a read at the airport today while waiting to board an early flight.
I don’t mind long drives when getting to it from destination regions, did Gemtree to Brisbane via Winton mid 2018 as I was going fine to do it, but being prepared to stop as needed.
Will post up any questions about you trip report as the tip is on my list, the dilemma is to do it when ?
Peak travel season with mad crowds, mad drivers, and campground chaos, or try a shoulder season and risk weather issues.

Edit - a good start to the trip report, please post follow up here when you get more instalments posted there.
Not sure what creek you seam in near Cown River, but it is croc country, assume you asked locals before swimming any water including beaches ?
Obviously you made it :) ;)

Part 2 & 3 are within the above link.
I last did the OTT in about 2012 in a Great Wall. (1st Great Wall to the tip via OTT). Palm Creek crossing has certainly got worse. Gunshot has/had so many options its hard to know which one that was. I did the 2nd hardest which was the one the big boys were doing. Most had to get winched/pulled out as they took it too slow and just slid nose 1st into the mud. I drove a little more aggressively and with a little momentum and a great approach angle I drove straight out. Great write up and pics.

Ah, missed links on this phone screen.
Will read tonight.

Just like typing error / omission, should be Coen River and 2 days Gemtree to Bris.

Hi David l1, I found major problem for the Freelander 2 to be low clearance. There was no way I could go into the deep ruts dug by the lifted cars. Add the slippery mud and you are ready for disaster.
Great to hear that a Great Wall made it all the way through OTT. I am currently looking at LDV T60 for more serious off roading. Was your Great Wall modified? What about Nolans Brook, did you cross it?
Cheers

Yes it was very much modified. 32" tyres (std was 29'), Lifted in both body (2.5") and suspension(1.5"), Diff locks front and rear. 120ltrs of LR tanks, winch, Bull bar and rear wheel carrier. You will find pics of it on Youtube. Did it with another mate in a simillarly modded GW. Transfer case had lower gears, diff ratios were changed due to wheel size. Motor and gearbox were stock std. Great car for the price and mods were cheap as these cars are big in Russia, and modded parts are cheap to buy (but well manufactured). Never broke anything! Only got rid of it as it does not like towing and I have now given up tenting it!!!

Great Write up and photos, but no way would I risk my Landcruiser ( with my driving ) to the OTT, When I do the trip it will be the Chicken Bypass the whole way.

Thanks Again ( your photos convinced me)
