"A giant bluefin tuna was sold for a record 333.6 million yen ($A4.4 million) in the first auction of the year at Tokyo's new fish market."
Think I might sell the van and detector and put a boat on the tow bar of the Toyota. :)
Dave.

The way that looked to me was the price is similar to the first box of cherries for the Australian season. That box of cherries goes for many time more than the regular prices.

Sell the detector, the van and the toyota, and hire a big boat. You are only going fishing the once, aren't you?
That way, new detector, van and 4Wd after the line goes tight.

While this is a special case to celebrate the opening of the new fish market , I have to tell you that the value of a tuna is decided by a little old Japanese man who is a National Treasure, who takes a plug from the side of a tuna , sniffs it tastes it and declares what its value should be per kilo.
I remember that Austrade tried to introduce an objective measure about 30 years ago but AFAIR failed to convince the Japanese. What looks like a very valuable fish may not be if the bloke decides that it is too coarse or whatever.
Tsukiji Fish market ( pronounced SKIDGEE) decided the value based on the advice. Oz fishermen do not know what the value will be until it is auctioned based on the advice. The new fish market will be the same.
So not a pot of gold unless you hit the jackpot of desirable traits

Aussies sometimes have trouble with the way Japanese words are pronounced.
eg,
Japanese characters Su (meaning 'number') and Doku (meaning 'single') but nearly all of them in Oz call it Su Doko when it is Su Doku, ie, dealing with single number.
Aussies just dispense or change some letters to make it easy for them.
ABC reporters leave by the Exit to report on BreGsit. Just lazy. Just goes to prove "X" is an unknown value especially at the ABC.

@garrycol
Well, if you are going to tell someone how to pronounce something, it would be wise (don't you think) to be correct.

No you weren't, but Rangiephil was, and the "you" was generic.
I'm sorry you feel that I was picking on you! I really wasn't.

Rangiphil the price is determined at auction not by some little old man. If price was soley determined by him he would indeed be a national treasure and certainly a very overworked one. It would also mean you wouldn't need an auction.
