Howdy All
After 45 years of owning/driving cars in and around this big brown land I recently purchased a 2007 GXL 200 series V8 diesel Landcruiser ! Funny thing is I wasn't even in the market for a car at all - it just came up at a price that I could not refuse when a friend of
mine decided to sell one of his two Landcruisers. I actually drove this very car to
Darwin and back from
Adelaide about 6 years ago when I got a gig as the head 4wd/bush survival guy with a Japanese film crew who did a documentary on
John Mcdouall Stuart where we retraced his steps from the south of the country to the north - along with filming ads for the Toyota Landcruiser. Tough gig but someone had to do it !!
Over the years I have owned dozens of cars, mainly utes and have never been a one eyed Ford or Holden man nor a one eyed fan of any others - I just bought what I thought would suit my needs at the time and what I thought represented good value for money.
I have already clocked up 6000 k's in it since buying and I love it. I drove it from
Adelaide to
Canberra and return but found it nowhere near as comfortable as my PX1
Ranger and ended up with a sore back at the end of each trip. I put this down to what l think is that it still has the original shockers which are possibly stuffed as it hopped and skipped over bumps and it was hard to drive - something I will rectify asap. It had done 185,000 k's when I got it.
So far - I just love the power and low down grunt and love the cabin space but absolutely hate the keyless entry/start.
It's bog standard at the moment but that will change over the next few months with priority being an in dash GPS / bluetooth / reverse camera etc etc head unit followed by upgraded
suspension, bullbar,
driving lights,
snorkel, roof rack and marginally larger tyres. I have already fitted a roller drawer system to help with storage.
Will have a few questions to ask on here re: this cruiser but for now would appreciate any useful tips on things I should do to make this great car even greater or anything I should be aware of that could cause me problems down the track !
Thanks and Cheers
" oh what a feeling "

Gazz, I'd get the transmission properly flushed either by a dealer or an auto trans outfit. It's supposed to be "sealed for life" but I had
mine flushed at 140,000km and the fluid had already started to go dark.
If you get the front lifted it should take 33's.
Mind you big tyres, lift, roof rack, bull bar and so on with bugger up your economy.
Mine has all the fruit and is packed with recovery gear; I am lucky to get 15l/100 on a trip and 20-22 around town.
LCOOL is worth a look as
well.

Thanks Keith
I just want to go from the current 285/65/17's to the 285/70/17's as they are a more common tyre size. Yeah I understand the extra fuel economy with accessories but having a V6 petrol Rodeo at one stage that rarely got more than 350 k's out of a standard tank I would be happy with those figures you put up.
Thanks for the reply

Hi I have a 2013 model standard with a key, uplift front to level the car, air bags in rear to carry caravan van 21ft, bullbar, draws, portable gps and reverse camera a lot cheaper than in built I get 12l/100 around town, towing 17-18l/100 on a good trip, 20/100 on bad trip.
I do not have a lead foot I very seldom get over 2000 revs on take off ,it is serviced regularly PS tyres are standard size off road, after market shocks.
I brought the standard because I did not want the rear seats and all the bells and whistles also $11000 grand cheaper for the same running gear.
U will enjoy Cheers

G'day reggy
Not looking at doing much towing but maybe down the track a bit I might buy a small light camper trailer - only problem with that is the missus might want to start coming on my trips lol
Re: in dash head unit - I never thought I would say this but after driving the
Ranger then into the cruiser I do miss all the electronic creature comforts the
Ranger has that the cruiser doesn't. The cruiser is 5 years older than my
Ranger and I'm sure the later model cruisers have all the electronic stuff the
Ranger has but I can't see myself buying a new Cruiser in the near future so a new digoptions unit will be going in soon !
With the price I paid for the car I can afford to spend a few bob on tweaking it to suit my needs
Thanks for your reply
Cheers
