After the good thread on GVM upgrades, I think it is time for me to look at doing it.

I have a 2014 Ford Ranger, used for work and play. In work guise it weighs 3180kg including me (GVM is 3200kg). I occasionally tow trailers and the ball weights will push me over GVM.

I have Lovell’s springs and Bilstein shocks 2” lift installed, they are the same springs used in the Lovell’s GVM upgrade. I have LT tyres rated to handle the weight. My installer doesn’t do GVM upgrades and I didn’t think I would be so close when fully loaded so I didn’t look at the option st the time.

Can anyone recommend someone in Perth who can certify the GVM upgrades?

My D-Max was organised by Major Motors and they used ARB in Canning Vale. This was done as part of my purchase so it was on a brand new vehicle straight of the boat.

You could contact them and see if they have one that they use for post rego.

Check out the mechanical workshops that are registered for vehicle inspections and registrations - the mob I found in Mandurah were extremely helpful and cost effective when I upgraded the van - saved me a fortune when I realised I didn't need an engineers certificate.Ranger might be different but worth the enquiry.

Good luck - Phil

Hi Nick - There are multiple suspension specialists in Perth specialising in GVM upgrades for vehicles.

There is a list in the links below, in my order of preference;

West Coast Suspensions - Railway Pde., Bassendean

Ape Suspension - Gnangara Rd, Landsdale

W.A.Suspensions - Osborne Pk.

Malaga Suspensions - Malaga, W.A.

Note that a GVM upgrade to a previously registered vehicle may entail an additional inspection by an authorised Automotive Engineer, to ensure compliance.
Any of the above Suspension upgrade suppliers will be able to advise on compliance requirements, and recommend a suitable authorised Automotive Engineer.

Cheers, Ron.

Hi Nick,

Ultimate 4WD Equipment in Bibra Lakes is a premium Lovells Dealer. I have used them and would have no hesitation in going back. I live in Melbourne where I had a Lovells GVM upgrade and my dealer recommended them to me when I wanted a general inspection while I was in WA.

Cheers, Chris

Thanks very much for the prompt replies!!!

I am north of the river so thank you Ron for that list, they are all reasonably close. Have used APE before and was happy, they slipped my mind.

Would highly recommend WA Suspensions. They are thoroughly experienced in this work and do GVM upgrades for the likes of FESA, WAPOL, new vehicle Dealerships and others. They are also authorised suppliers of Lovells & Bilstein and can arrange the vehicle examination for you, if required, so that the DOT (Licencing) vehicle records can be updated to reflect the increased GVM and the necessary Modification Permit can be issued. Any technical questions regarding GVM upgrades can also be directed to the DOT Vehicle Safety Branch by ringing 131156 and ask them to put you through. I have no affiliation with WA Suspensions other than having examined many of their jobs as well as work done by the other Companies mentioned by others. Oh yeah, and don't forget to tell your insurance company.
