Hi all.

Just want to ask what the road from Mansfield to Craig’s hut is like? And if it could be traveled in a stock standard(apart from bull bar and good AT tyres) brand new Prado.

The wife has an appointment in Melbourne in a few weeks time and we were going to fly, but because I recently retired and she wants to do a road trip in her new car, we decided to drive. Our thinking is we would like to see the hut on our way home.

Any advice welcomed.

Cheers Greg

you can drive around the circuit rd to the hut turnoff
in a commodore .the last bit up to the hut you need a lot more more ground clearance .the prado will be fine

Thanks Pete for your reply. Only ever seen Victorian high country tv shows and dvds. Didn’t know what to expect.

Hi Greg,
Yes no problems with AT Tyres, If it rains it will change things a bit. Just need to reduce your tyre pressure.

If you are going to Craig' Hut and have the time call into the Mansfield Visitors Centre, They will be able to provide you with lot's of info of info about other High Country places of interest.that you don't need a fully kitted out to visit.Enjoy.

And Jamieson pub is a great place for a meal and the town itself is worth the detour. Also the road from Jamieson to Thornton was tarred a few years back, great views of Lake Eildon
