Any jackaroo drivers out there travelled strzelecki,
oodnadatta, Flinders skytrek, kings canyon (Merindee loop?) to
Alice springs with or without side steps.
I want to know if I had side steps on would they hinder me in these areas. Currently I dont have any on, but am thinking of putting them on for some dirt road stone travelling protection.
Cheers

Unless your
rock hopping sidesteps would never really be an issue ...
Depends on make of steps, and how low they really do hang down.. What ones are you thinking about? ARB? or homemade which would be $500 cheaper?

Mate, apart from Skytrek you are talking about graded roads where 2wd is the order of the day.

Jackablue.
I have a 2002 Jack with side steps. None of what you note is an issue. Somewhere like
Palm Valley may need some caution.

Did you get in there with sidesteps or are you just suggesting?

re-read your question and my answer was maybe a bit short.
We have travelled the areas you note and the only time the side steps were an issue was the last section into
Palm Valley. Just had to pick our line.

Been to most of those placeswithoutsidesteps. I'm always on the
lookout for stone damage - seems the jack sides are fine without the ST....we can get in and out without any drama so the ST cost is saved for other toys.

I have some Kingsley (low) sidesteps which I sort off ripped off a couple of years ago & thought about reserecting them for this trip. I will be towing a CT so most will be on dirt road tracks, But once set up
camp I want to have the freedom to go other
places without the CT.
