G'day all... Just dusted off the old UHF and have been looking for suitable antenna. Have been recommended a Glass Mount antenna which adheres to the inside of the windscreen. As we all know, salesmen are famous for knowing everything and nothing... Anyone gad experience with these...?

The other thing you need to consider is the size of the ground plane foil(s) that end up on the windscreen, some of them are fairly big and may hinder your vision.

The base part is about the same size as a GSM phone antenna but they require a much larger ground plane on the inside of the glass, the sales people often forget to mention this, open one up and have a look before you buy.

Personally I would imagine loss of power through the glass, however my old man uses one for his scanner and swears by it, reckons it's one of the best antennas he's got (he's got 5 on the car!!). He does have his on the back window as he's got a sedan so the loss of vision I could not comment on.

All glass mounts exhibit major loss and that's ok if you just want to talk close to vehicles in your convoy etc but if you want max performance don't use them.

Whats wrong with the old 6 inch unity gain?
unobtrusive and mount almost anywhere.
do not have any pose value but cheap and work well
