Brainy,

Just got info from a reliable source that the 2019 Brunette Races have been cancelled, due to the ongoing drought on the Barkly Tablelands. Only third time they have been cancelled, the other times being WWII & drought.

You would need to ring Epenarra Station to obtain permission to use that track, up to Barkly Highway.

G'day Braincell. I have a feeling that Epenarra was recently sold by the family that owns it and Murray Downs. It will be interesting to see if the new owners continue to let travellers use what is a station track. In the past it was occasionally put off limits when they were mustering. Supporting the station store by buying fuel etc on the way through may assist. A bit of direction from them is also helpful to find the right track!! The track itself is a doddle, but a bit boring. If I remember it saves about 400km+ from going through Tennant Creek. Good luck. Timnivo.

Road through Epenarra was closed to the public when we were there 10 years ago. I think they had to recover to many unprepared travellers. Some experienced travellers did obtain permission; perhaps a matter of who you knew as well.

I have heard no news of changes since under new ownership, but would be interested in updates.
