Tried to enter June 2019 but there was an electric fence across the entry track. May not have been hooked up but didn’t want to remove it. Obviously placed across the track for a reason. Disappointing.

Is this the same location known as Gum Swamp? If it is, camping has not been allowed for some time, so the fence may be to prevent vehicle access by campers. Would it have been far to walk to the bird hide from the fence?

Hi Motherhen.
Not sure about Gum Swamp. We are heading north for Melbourne’s winter and are trying the Explore Oz Traveller for the first time. Thought we would camp the night at one of the public places on the way into Forbes. Place ID 77186. Not so much for the bird watching but II notes said a quiet place off the highway.

It sounds like the same place Mepvic; Gum Swamp Bird Hide.

I have been told all along "no camping permitted at Gum Swamp as it is a lovely spot, especially at sunrise and sunset. But it is open during the day."

Punch the coordinates into Google maps and it comes up as Gum Swamp and Bird Hide

Thanks all. Michelle and David. If you are watching could you delete reference to camping in the notes for Explore Oz places ID 77186. Stop people aiming for it late in the day only to find they can’t camp there.
