Canning Stock Route - Wiluna Parngurr

Looking at doing the CSR next July, I have heard of fuel drops ex Capricorn road house but has anyone done or know if you can make Wiluna to Parngurr ?
I am assuming the fuel drop ex Capricorn is for those who don't want the detour, 95 km each way from Georgia Bore (Talawana Track)
I have a 2018 Hilux, 144 l Tank and take to 2 Jerry's of fuel.
Plan is Wiluna - Parngurr - kiwirrkurra - Billiluna.
Appreciate some advice cheers

Tezza

You will more than make that distance with fuel you have.

Distance on the CSR vary from Website to Website, Forum to Forum and trip to trip. This is because of wheel slip, not tracking the the exact same course, side trips, reversing, turning etc etc. (I also had a few kms difference between odometer reading and GPS data).

Below are my distances for the trip I completed a few weeks ago as an example. Others will have different measurements.

Halls Creek to Billiluna = 253.9kms measured
Billiluna to Kunawarritji = 1010.1kms measured
Kunawarritji to Parnngurr = 259.8 kms measured
Parnngurr to Wiluna = 1016.9 kms measured
Parnngurr to Georgia Bore = 96.5 kms measured (this was the worst 50 or so kilometres of road on the whole trip - until you meet the mine access road west of Georgia Bore, then it is maintained and bearable).

Fuel prices as follows

Wiluna - $179.5 p/lt
Parnngurr - $3.60 p/lt
Kunawarritji - $3.40 p/lt
Billiluna -$2.60 p/lt
Halls Creek - $1.75p/lt.

Parnngurr and Kunawarritji both have Card Facilities, but really appreciate payment in cash. Travellers imput of cash is often the only way they can restock there cash supply. Cash leaves the communities when members travel into nearby towns and the communities don't have banking facilities to store cash.

Hope the info helps

Cheers

Great information. I am planning a CSR trip next year and first hand and current stats are welcomed. Do you also have your fuel usage and for what type of vehicle. I will be traveling in a 79 series V8 diesel.
The windscreen is a travelling picture show

Curious about this distance Billiluna to Kunawarritji = 1010.1kms measured

What side tracks did you manage? - i.e. off the main track. Around 657km is a common mileage quoted - that being my own in 2013 taking a pretty direct track route no side trips.

Hi Gaynor

Lots of double backs between Well 33 and Well 38 out to the native wells. Also out to the Gary via Jenkins and Callowa Tracks.

Also did the return trip out from Warraburda to Helena Springs (absolutely horrible track)

Also did the circuit around Well 45 andWell 48 before heading out to Wirrimanu and back to Billiluna.

Cheers

Hi Harry

I was in a 105 series Landcruiser. 290 lts of diesel in split tanks.

My usage isn't really a guide as I was all over the place with so many side trips - I also fill up at every opportunity, regardless of how much I've used. I use my original main tank as reserve and know I will get approx 550 km (to empty) so I use that as my safety margin to work out routes.

I have recorded total fuel usage and will post it when I get home (currently away working).

Cheers

You can easily top up at Parnngurr, Kunawaritji, Punmu no more fuel drops.

They do have credit card facilities give them a call a few days before and ensure fuel is available. Also, all communities are usually closed on Sunday and only a few hours open on Saturday
Fuel prices two weeks ago

Parngurr $3.20
Kunawaritjii $3.60

cheers

Wiluna to Parngurr I used 142l in 03 Prado 3l diesel. No side trips. Running 20psi and 4wd high range where required. You should be ok in your rig.
