Is this possible. I got a v6 petrol mk triton. Im keen to keep the same performance, but just want some extra noise? Dont wana add any chips or anything.
What about just changing the exhaust tip?

Although, im thinking of installing a snorkel soon.. would this affect performanc/power anyway?

More noise, why?????? If you want more noise, punch a big hole in the muffler and then wait for EPA to bust you. And a snorkel will not affect power.

Do what all the"cool" people do and fit a muffler delete kit. Makes your ute sound like a tractor. And then wait for the defect.

Damian
Recently you have asked a wide range of questions and seem to be trying to keep up with the Jones's's's'.
Like other asked, Why more noise, all it will do is alarm kangaroos who then wish to jump in your path, Hardly sensible. Are you intending to travel with the drivers window down or up? that will govern how much noise you will hear too. All it will do is attract people in uniforms you don't want to meet. You can play an engine/exhaust noise on your sound system if needed. A snorkel is only of use if properly sealed and you wish to take your vehicle swimming with you, or you want to travel too close to others on dusty roads. Snorkel is an external airbrake which causes more drag. Very similar to the airbrake lights people have on the roof, a big wall of large area lights, madness. The exhaust tip, only impresses those who like to see nice clean shiny exhaust tips, can't see it while driving. It has no other purpose at all, a normal exhaust tail pipe is ok and the engine won't know what you have fitted and it doesn't care.

There are a wide range of beliefs and concepts held by the general population regarding vehicles and "essential modifications" and most is simply rubbish. Tread carefully before altering anything. You can spend hundreds of money, even thousands of money but nothing meaningful may be achieved.

Let me guess, Damian - You just love that bumper sticker that says, "If it's too loud, you're too old!" - and you've got plans to put one on as well? LOL

Noise is good - as long as you're the only one listening to it.

The simple problem is, contrary to what a lot of young blokes think, a lot of other people just don't want to hear your loud noise.
That's the simple reason for noise pollution laws - and their fairly regular enforcement.

Cheers, Ron.

Yes, the sound of a V8 is unique, and that exhaust note does appeal to many people.

I've been just as guilty of imposing a V8 note on many others, when I was young and lead-footed, and they didn't necessarily ask to hear it!

Personally, I now prefer the smooth note of a V12. I've owned half a dozen V12 Cummins diesels, and I drove a mates Daimler Sovereign V12 for 3 weeks, while he was on holiday, and the V12's are as smooth as silk.

When I hear a 700HP V12 crank up with a musically smooth note, it does sound particularly good to my ears.

Cheers, Ron.

A snorkel won't make any difference to the sound, you really need to go talk to an exhaust shop and see what they've got to say.
Some petrol engines will just never sound nice and chunky eg 80 series petrol landcruiser, not sure if the triton is in the same boat but an exhaust guy will tell you for sure.
Im not sure if you've been around this site much but its definatly the wrong place to ask such a question, strictly 50 year old and up fuddy duddy been there done that territory over here, lots of good info but they don't understand the young folk with long hair and earings ;-)

You forgot the meaningless tattoos and the two earrings, more rings than a ringlock fence on some. Gotta have heavier cables to your speakers than the starter motor, 'cos you have to. We used to alter the wheel arches to fit bigger tyres, now the body is modified to fit the numerous subwoofers, amps and midrange so a later hearing test can verify the incredible loss well before middle age.
Of note, If you had an earing in left ear in much older times, you were a sailor of repute having gone around the bottom of Africa and survived, You were the Man.
If you had a ring in both ears, you had been around sth America as well, even more Highly respected you was. Now they have them everywhere, some hidden and embedded, not sure where they have sailed or why!

RMD you need to open up your mind and accept that the world is a different place to the one you grew up in.
Those Tatts and piercings might mean nothing to you but don’t you think they might mean something to those who have them?
And it was ok for you to enjoy being young and dumb in your earlier years but don’t want others to enjoy that same right of passage of growing up.

For the record I don’t have Tatts or piercings myself but are not narrow minded enough to belittle others choice in doing so.

Think really hard.
What makes you think everybody within 3 blocks of you wants to hear your car?
Play a drag racing recording on your audio system, or make "Brooooom! Broooom!" noises as you drive. Consider fitting internal wipers in this case.

Hi Damian,

Know where your'e coming from buddy. I was young once too.

So ya want some EXTRA NOISE? No probs, I can help ya.
Don't muck with the Triton's tailpipe. Just plug a little gadget into the ciggie lighter.
Yep, take a look at this video. And turn up your volume control RIGHT UP.
On sale for $68.See here.
Or maybe a V10 or V12 here.
If it's just for your ears then beef up your vehicle's audio system.
If ya wanna impress the neighbourhood then put a 200W amp and a couple of horn speakers under the bonnet.
Sure to impress the drivers of cars with a chequered band around the body! LOL

I gave an F1 model to a friend in Singapore. Drove his mates mad in his little convertible !!!!

But don't expect any admiration on this forum.... we are all old fogeys here.

Check on the Triton forum and you will most likely find what exhaust replacement to do or have a chat to the local exhaust shop who can change out the muffler for one that has more of a note.
Chips will change performance but not the sound.

A snorkel is a great option if you intend on doing any water crossings, it will have no effect on your performance either way.

I go along with Michael h9’s comment . And at 58 , I would probably still get a bit of noise out of a v6 if I had one, had an MK v6 and it sounded pretty good! doesn’t have to be “loud”.
Come on you old farts!

I was young too once & made my 67 Mini Cooper as loud as I could.
Dad told me off about it but I ignored his protests. Its just what young blokes do. :-)
Years later you just look at it as a phase you went through. Also not to mention the amount of time & money I spent "hotting it up" with cylinder head mods & extractors!
I think some people forget they were young once so dont worry about it mate.

And long-live the straight through exhaust...!

My advice to Damian is, that the louder the exhaust, the quicker and more often you promptly become todays target, for those blokes in blue, in the candy cars!

And when you're young, you're a bigger target, and they never let you go, without writing tickets!!

Been there and done that, as a young hoon with a new 5 litre V8, and a few "walking periods" to match! LOL

Cheers, Ron.

As an observation I can't see anywhere that Damian has said how old he is, although seems to be many assuming he is a young bloke, whatever that infers...

I see plenty of grey-haired (and balding) older blokes running around in Holden Utes making as much noise as they can, and not too mention those on Harley's reliving the dream...

I think Gramps is "on the money"...

Damian, sports exhausts are available for you vehicle, just do a google search or see your local exhaust shops they will sort it. The snorkel won't do anything for or against performance but it will help your aircleaner filter out with less dust.

Don't worry about the knockers here, they would even complain about the noise from kids playing.

Now if you really want a decent bit of noise put one of these in a 4b.

990Eagle, I've lost 70% of my hearing, thanks to sitting right alongside one of those unmuffled, screaming, two-stroke supercharged GM Diesels for 8 to 10 hrs a day!!

You can always tell the GM Diesel owners - they're the ones with a blank look on their face when you say something to them, because they haven't understood a word you said!

Thank the Good Lord for noise reduction laws, and soundproofed cabs, and the quiet engines of today. They came 40 years too late for me!

It might be great fun to listen to that racket for 5 mins, but it's not fun when you can't understand what anyone is saying, any more!

Cheers, Ron.

Mate just bought an oldie with a 8/92 for farm work, I took it for a run the other day and some memories came flooding back.

Driving a couple of 525 V8 Superliners, I always loved the pop from those engines.

Most of the trucks I drove over the last 10 years had twin 6 inch sooters with jam tins for mufflers, but as you said the insulation of the cabs is better.

It isn't about being an Old Fart or indeed a young Thruster, it is about advising someone who obviously hasn't a clue and is subjected to peer group pressure or what their mates expect or perhaps what they think their mates accept. Most of us trying to advise against going down the path of, the young and foolish, who end up spending Mega $$$$$$$$$'s for NO tangible benefit. We were all young once but some had the sense not to indulge in the stupid thing people do. As many of the older ones say, "I was young once I understand", of course they were, goes without saying, but were they so idiotic? It is like accepting the now bad behavior of Shane Warne and tennis players because they were young at some time. How many second chances do they expect???

I doubt if Damian has rectified the RTT camper issue let alone the oil leaks , or the overheating, or the monitoring gauge issue or the suspension lift proposed. He has all on here replying to someone who just keeps inventing stuff but never reports on what he has decided or completed or the success he has had with any of it.
As a younger person I took ALL advice, weighed it up and then did what I decided to do. It is a far cheaper.

I thought he had already had reported elsewhere that the lift is now installed and is now looking at other things.

He said he wanted a bit more noise not necessarily illegal extra noise but all the old fart grinches on this forum auto assume he wants the equivalent of no mufflers and he has not indicated this.

Time to lighten up.

I am in my 70s and I have a nice exhaust note on all my vehicles.

I think Damian need to move to a forum with a less geriatric outlook.

The suspension Damian apparently now has is only 1 in 5 or previous items brought to the forum for comment. I for one do not think for a minute that he wants no mufflers, so that immediately cuts out the ALL factor. What use is more noise? If going bush, it means when he gets out there will be no wildlife to observe or hear, they clear off. If exhaust noise is loud enough to be heard in the sealed cab then it is obtrusively noisey outside, hello officer! Your nice exhaust note, can you hear it while driving? If not, then nice note is pretty meaningless. Driving long distances and listening to your own exhaust sound is tiresome after 500metres. 5000km just no use.
Damian can of course get acceptance and endorsement for whatever he wants, anywhere, but people who may have done it before hand and seen the errors of those actions, provide a valid point of view and should NOT be disregarded.
PS, An MK Triton V6 already has an exhaust note due to the V6 design and if revved a bit they crackle noticeably. Just why would you want to attract peoples attention?

Damien,

I'm an old fart, try not to be cranky, but sometimes circumstances just overwhelm me and I crack. But not today :-)

I reckon that in amongst all the posts there is some worthwhile advice. Read everything, without resentment disregard what you dont like, try to piece together what you do like and make the best of it.

Views do change as one ages, so my advice is to accept that everyone's perspective is different and age, among other things, affects that perspective. Do what you want to do, make as much noise as you want to but I would ask you that in doing that you respect the places and circumstances where that would not be appropriate such as where other people are gathered, like camps, etc.

On the streets, go for it. You know the risks with the law, that is up to you. But where peace and quiet is treasured, respect that.

Do that and you're welcome at my campfire anytime.

Cheers

This is a forum for discussion Damian. Sorry if your feelings get hurt.
By posting the above reply you have shown you are wanting endorsement for the ideas you have, but not prepared to learn from a few people who give sensible advice to you. Some are just grown ups who believe the same rubbish for some reason. Being an Automotive Mechanic with far higher qualification than you are ever likely to recognize I have supplied very accurate replies of what faults and resolutions for same and expect you to evaluate that info for your wise use. You seem unable to do this and simply want to believe those who agree with you or provide crap info. Good luck in the future. Expect many lost $$$$$$$$$$$'s as a result if you follow the silly path..

YOU could let people know of the use you made of the sensible comments couldn't you, if you appreciate the viewpoints posted for you to consider. I am not forcing you to do anything. Read a lot before asking questions. Definitely NOT 4WD magazines.

Damian, a while ago I had VL Commodore. I put headers on it, no muffler except the cat, and a fat exhaust. It sounded great to me, until firstly the neighbours started to hate me and then on the first interstate trip I too started to hate the incessant droning noise. So now quiet is good for me. I have genie headers and a big exhaust on my Landcruiser but also a very effective muffler. Good luck working out your own preferences.

2.5” exhaust with sports muffler, just tell the exhaust shop what kind of sound and how loud you want it and they should be able to help out. If you go bigger that 2.5” with a loud muffler it will likely drone at cruising speed.

How’s that eh? A response to the question asked not people giving their opinion on why you shouldn’t do it!!!
