Hello
I'm Rajeeb Patnaik from Bhubaneswar Orissa India.I have a 72 TLC FJ40.I swapped the petrol engine and ploncked in a Toyota 13B diesel retaining the original 3 speed gearbox.Facing serious problem with lugging in first gear.I need a lower ratio first gear wid adequate lower ratio transfer case. Please suggest a suitable four speeder cos I'm satisfied with the 1:1 ratio top gear and 3.71 final drive ratio.

Take a look at:

It might help you find a more suitable 4 speed for a conversion.

best option is to look for a preloved 4 speed from a 3b with the later style(80 and later) transfer (that is alot stronger) and put the lot in. These 40's had something like 4 different 4 speeds for the different diff ratios.
Good luck
