Nyinmy...I stopped here for a look while returning east from Jupiter Well. There seems to be precious little information about this place available on the internet. I've seen it described as an aboriginal out station, such as at the link below (scroll down about halfway). Does anyone know more about this place?

There is an entry for Nyinmy in Wikicamps. A photo, but not much detail.

Yes, I saw it on wikicamps as I was headed west. But I wanted to get to Jupiter Well before it got dark.

My itinerary had me backtrack to the east so I had time to explore it then.

I knew nothing of it before I visited. I thought maybe it had been a work camp. Perhaps for people putting up the Telstra relay towers, or working on the road.

The road in that area obviously has had a bit of work. For one thing, it does not follow Len's original alignment. As demonstrated by the displacement between the nearby Len blaze tree and the current roadway.

We went through there in July 2018. I too was curious but since then have been unable to find any substantive information.

Yeah, my internet search didn't turn up much. Other than the link above. And a few pictures taken in the area, with captions that mention a Nyinmy outstation.

There's also the Wikicamps entry, but it likewise provides little information.

From "KIWIRRKURRA Community Layout Plan Report & Provisions - Jan.2004"

4.
Comments: The community’s population has declined as a result of the March 2002 Flood. Prior to the flood the estimated population was 153. Members of the Kiwirrkurra community have access and spend time in several “outstations” or camps established at:
• Nyinmi, 130 kms;
• Jupiter Well, 165 kms;
• Mukula, 72 kms;
• Winparrku, 55 kms;
• Maruwa, near lake Mackay;
• Yarki, 130 kms;
• Mintardi, 130 kms near Kintore and
• Tarku, 68 kms.

Looking for adventure.
In whatever comes our way.

Aha, it's supposed to be spelled "Nyinmi"!
Searching using that spelling brings up a lot more results. Thanks!

One thing I found was a 2014 to 2019 IPA plan. Which mentioned it as an outstation that's occasionally used. But by the time I saw the place in 2019, it looked rather tattered.

We also called in there, Candace, on 1/07/18, travelling towards Sandy Blight Track & Yulara, where our group of 4 vehicles made their way home. No apparent reason for the place to be deserted, but Alan's post may explain why?

We also found another dwelling, on south side of highway, and down towards Buck Hills. Besser block building, couple of rooms & a bore & overhead tank.

Nice find! I drove past there twice but I don't remember seeing that. Is the house visible from the Gary Junction Road?

Don’t recall, Candace. You may be able to see the roof, if travelling east, but some hills would block your view while heading west.

These are co-ordinates, according to Mr Hema: 23°07.340’S, 128°41.165’E

I went through from the east in about 1996, there wasn't anyone around, but all buildings were in good condition. There were a couple of freezers connected to a solar panel system charging bank of batteries. The freezers had some frozen roo tails in them.

I was later told that living at Nyinmy was seasonal, food and seed dependant.
