Bob.
I had a HJ61 for 25 years and early on I added a small lengthening arm to the throttle arm on the pump to remove the suddenness of throttle opening. After repositioning the cable angle by altering the bracket holding the outer, to as square as can be with the arm, ie, drop it below, it improved it quite a lot. The switch you have for a high idle is great for warm up or crawling along but I wouldn't use it in normal use. That is "dangerous" because when slowing and braking and expecting to pull up
the governor in the pump will fully open the throttle when it detects revs drop below the set point of the throttle. OK if you catch it, deadly if not. 2+ tonnes does have a crushing effect.
I have two genuine manuals for the vehicle/engine and it is handy sometimes.

I had a little lurch at take off, tracked it down to throttle lever pivot point, it had plenty of wear, I rebuilt it, greased it and it worked smoothly .
