Shade cloth under roof cargo rack

They were called tropical roofs way back when.

I put a sheet of 2/3 mill ply from Bunnings over floor of mine to create shade

Shade cloth is just that, shade, better to have enough to block out the rays and still have an airgap above the rook of the Iveco. Thin Ply on top may be a solution as it also prevents items going through the mesh. And shade too.

Sounds like a good idea in principle. An issue I see with “flexible” covers under the floor of the roof rack is that it will trap debris like leaves & dust, and will become heavy if it rains or gets wet, it may then sag and tear.

On the other hand, hard covers placed on top of the floor of the roof rack then restricts your tie down points to the front, back & side rails only. Of course you could add tie down anchor points to the ply wood, although not sure how strong these may be. Would be interested in the experience of others that have done what you are suggesting.

We get the occasional rocks landing on the roof o our Prado, I would be concerned as such of the same building up on top of the shade cloth as mentioned above. Also if you get them trapped between the shade
cloth an the roof would not be good.
