I remember buying petrol there for my shorty Landcruiser in 1978 from a pump-up 5 gallon glass bowl bowser. It was easier for them than firing up the gennie and using an electric pump. All the pub sold was Fourex Beer! Then we camped down by the river. Travelling from Adelaide to Fraser Island. Memories

I first visited the Noccundra Hotel about 27 years ago on an Endevour Car Rally, always remembered visiting a beaut old stone pub in the outback but could never recall where it was in the years that followed. In 2010 we did a trip out to cross The Simpson Desert, coming from Thargomindah direction as soon as I rounded the corner and spotted the pub I said to the misses, this is the stone pub I can never recall where it was that I had visited all those years ago. We have visited the pub again a handful of times since 2010.....i was disappointed to find a cranky publican running the place about 5 years ago, but last visit there about a year and a half back had new people yet again running the pub. Can't recall the name of the guy that ran it atleast 10 years back, but he was a nice bloke i thought after chatting with him on several of our visits there, he was a bit of a character that was up for a laugh and had a running joke with the publicans at Cameron Corner, he'd get visitors passing through to deliver a message to them for him....the Noccundra publican would get people to tell Fenn and Cheryl to "GET F*%#ED" ,and in return Fenn and Cheryl would have visitors headed for Noccundra relay the same message back to the Noccundra publican..... anyone remember that happening?. I was talking to Fenn @ Cameron Corner about a year and a half ago and asked him what had become of that publican, sadly Fenn informed me the guy had taken his own life after moving on from running that hotel. With Fenns passing last year it's now 2 pubs in the same area that lost publicans I'd had a few laughs and drinks with over the years...well that's my memories of the Noccundra Hotel.

I think from memory they did 27 years ago, think cars on the rally were getting fuel there. I never needed it on other trips to check since as I fueled at either Thargomindah or Cameron Corner....the fuel from memory wasn’t at the pub but around at one of the other buildings I think, though memory is very rough on that.

Fenn & Cheryl also had the same running joke with the publican at Tibooburra.

Yes I remember it well I was working for Santos in the area building oil and gas leases about 37 years ago, there was two brothers running it then and after Santos struck the biggest oil producing well at the time Jackson South 2 ,the enterprising boys got a swag of dark glass bottles about 150mm I think ,got some labels printed and was selling them over the bar for genuine crude oil at $5 a bottle ,to all the tourists ,they got the oil for free ,so made a pretty good packet on the side went through there in 2014 and they had diesel and petrol then ,new owners then too

In the '90,s we were opal mining behind Eromanga.
At the time I think various members of the one family ran the pubs at Noccundra, Eulo, Thargominda and Adavale.
One thing is for sure though, they all knew how to make a quid !!

Petrol Spy does not have an entry for them. I guess there is no fuel there now.

Not necessarily so. Petrol Spy doesn't have an entry for Cameron Corner either. I'm sure they sell fuel there.

Petrol Spy website states....."The database, covering all grades of petrol, diesel and LPG from all the major retailers and independent operators,"
I'm not sure that they would class Noccundra Hotel as "major". lol
Cheers

Yeah, I wouldn’t go on petrol spy for where fuel is available, isn’t it more for “watching” pricing?

Gramps, did you check? They have not had an update for over 28 days. Would the next traveller through there please an entry?

Yes I did check and "No matches found". Very strange.

Removed and re-installed Petrol Spy but same result. Only two partial matches Cameron Park and Camerons Creek. Definitely no Cameron Corner on mine.

.
Have been through there a number of times and usually called in.
One time the publican wanted my wife to become the pub's cook!
Roz was not attracted to the job. Fortunately. lol
Never looked for fuel there. With 270 litres onboard capacity, didn't need to.
Cheers
