Just wondering what people would suggest as a portable radio with best reception.
Wouldn't mind multi band so I can get weather reports as
well as listening to footy and cricket if possible.
Cheers

Some Tecsun radios are fantastic indeed.
However if they're made in Australia, their address is
189 GUAN CHANG ROAD,
DONG CHENG DISTRICT,
DONGGUAN,
GUANGDONG,
CHINA.
Australia.

G’day PeterD
Good info , that it’s an Australian company , but it doesn’t say they manufacture in Australia.
Plenty of companies source or manufacture overseas, as long as their quality control is good the product should be as
well, so no problem.

Are you looking for something that has good remote reception or something that has lots of bands or both?
Unfortunately, the ABC closed down their Short Wave Australia and Radio Australia service a few years ago so or broadcast radio, AM and FM are the only things you need. The BOM still broadcasts weather on SW but you really need to work hard to get a local weather forecast for land, it is broadcast every few hours.
BOM HF weather broadcasts
If you want remote AM reception then a Tecsun AN 200 will turn any radio into a reception superstar. They work like magic. I use
mine everywhere. For $50, it can drag a quality signal out of the noise. No wires, no battery they are amazing.

We have had a Tecsun PL600 for a very long time. For the same reasons as you.
We also have the tecsun loop aerial and I suspend the radio with a length of light shock cord inside the
the loop.
It all works just great.

Perhaps one with a good volume-down control?
??????

Hi Bricky,
I have a Kaito
Emergency Radio Voyager. Its American and currently available from Amazon (I bought
mine from ebay) . Being a bit geeky I like it because it is solar, battery,ac and windup powered. Has the usual am/fm sw stations, plus a light, usb charger and emergency flasher. Fun to play with plus it works!
regards
Garth

Did a bit of research and decided on an AM FM radio. Bought a Sangean pr-d3. Apparently designed for long range reception, works a treat at
home picking up more stations than anything else we have.
If needed when we go away will look at
the loop Ariel.
Cheers

Bricky - The reception ability of the Sangean PR-D3 is reported to be good, but the durability of the radio is reported by owners as being less than acceptable.
One owner seems to think that it's a top class unit, provided you don't mind doing numerous control replacements yourself, keeping it out of the sun, and ensuring it's not in humid, damp conditions.
