Has anyone in Melbourne bought snow chains recently and if so, can you recommend a retailer? also the price?
I am after a (good quality) set for my GU which has 285/75/16's.
Several friends with same size tyers are also looking for them so we might do a bulk purchase.

Snow zone or similar, Grantham Street, Brunswick. Between Park and Dawson Street. About $250.00 for diamond pattern in that size, I hope. Bought some for 265/75 16 last year, need them for 285/75s this year.

Eric,

I think I saw the ones you mention. They are $200 now ($199 actually) and I also saw them at Wayne Ritchies in Preston also. They are made in China. I spoke to someone there that sold a pair for use on a car and they drove from Dinner Plain to Hotham everyday for a week and she said the chains were stuffed. She didn't recommend them for frequent use but for more the person that needs to carry them to be legal. The 4wd sizes had larger chains but looked the same quality.

Sorry Bonz, sold them to the bloke who bought the car with the tyres on it. Leroy, I get the message....lol. I'll probably buy another set from them, the last set wore well - in the bag... If anybody is interested I have a genuine pair of Konig Chains for 255.75/16. That would be any pajero, pathfinder, jackeroo, etc etc. Brand new, they wore exactly the same as the chinese ones - in the bag. I want $200.00 for these ones. They cost double that retail.

Eric,

I take it you arre happy with these cheaper ones and dont think the extra for Konig's is justified?

I have a fear of panel damage should a chain wear through or break!

Have you done a lot of k's on yours?

Darren, I only had them on the tyres to see that they actually fit. So the I couldn't determine the wear rate! As I said, they wear very well in the bag, lol.

Eric, FYI, Leroy and I bought chains from the shop you referred to. Very happy with the purchase, we got 5 sets all up and he did a very good deal (the guy is actually the importer). Tested them out yesterday at Mt Skene and they worked a treat.

Thanks for your assistance.
