Over the
Easter period for the past 2 years I have been exploring the
Lake Cowan area of W.A. The maps and Google maps are not overly accurate so I end up doing a lot of backtracking, Cherternerlynyer Lagoon is on the maps but as yet have not found access to it. (overgrown, dead end and tracks on maps but now non existent)
Does anyone have any information on this lagoon as to access for this years trip.
Regards
Sludgie

Sludgie, there's a track to the North of Cherternerlynyer Lagoon, that runs East-West.
The lagoon is obviously ephemeral, and it would appear it only fills after very heavy rains across the region South of Coonana.
The precise location of
the lagoon on Google Maps is -31.350343, 123.133625.

Many of the tracks out there are quite obviously seriously overgrown, I'd have to say some exploration on a quad bike, might be the only way of finding
the lagoon.
Cheers, Ron.

Hi Sludgie
I use Oziexplorer and recently I've started downloading google satellite images using freeware called MOBAC (Mobile Atlas Creator). This may show tracks in an area that are not on a map. I can then import the map into OziE. You could create waypoints on the image and then upload them to the Traveller app if that's your chosen software. I used this recently when in sand dune/scrubby country with hundreds of tracks around that aren't mapped and is was very easy to follow the correct one out.

Sludgie, any idea how badly burnt out that area is at the moment? I can see we are going to be getting lots of punctures if we head across country! Good job I have plenty of plugs.
All my maps show a track coming in from the west that terminates about 10km from
the lagoon but nothing closer.

Google shows tracks all the way through that area, that is until you get there and can't see any or make your way through. Don't worry, have I ever led you astray?.

When haven't you led me astray? I think that signature of yours could be an omen?

And yes, Sludgie, just where does that quote ,
" The scrub is something terrible. Oh, what a damnable, treacherous, God forsaken country it is to be sure. I believe it would sicken the Devil himself.", come from?
Sounds a tad Irish to me.
Cheers

Hello Jim, the quote comes from Frank Hann around 1897 in the
Rudall River area. From the book Do Not Yield To Despair compiled by Ian Elliot and Mike Donaldson.

Thanks Sludgie, now I know. Had a look at your book, but at $95 it's a bit too much for me.
Cheers
