Some of you folks that have been here for a few years might remember that a few years ago we produced the ExplorOz Calendars. To jog your memories, here is a snap shot of the past calendars we've done. There were only two - 2016 and 2017.

In the 2017 Calendar the photographers whose winning shots were featured were: George & Jane Sinclair, Dan Wood, Dave van Zanten, Bill Sargent, Trevor Carter, Barry Rufus, Patricia Woodgate, Jack Bradshaw, Emma McPherson, Bob Valiant.

In the 2016 Calendar, the photographers whose winning shots were featured were: Baz the Landy, Mick O, Equinox, Kerry Wynn, Paul Horton, Sandy Jacka, Stephen Langman, Joe Abrams.

I'd be interested to hear any comments, thoughts you have before we put together the details to embark on this project again for 2021.

Basically if we do it like last time, the photos were submitted by YOU - the people in our ExplorOz community so that the calendar truly represented what ExplorOz is all about. We put out the call for photo submissions and select only 15 images - one for each of the 13 months (there are 2 Januarys) and 1 each for the back & front cover. The calendar was printed on high grade gloss A3 so was perfect for hanging up in your office, or back door of the dunny, kitchen etc.

Based on previous production costs (using an Australian company), printing 200 calendars, we needed to sell at $20 each plus postage. They are a bit heavy and large so postage could have been a sticking point for some.

So, I'm keen to hear what people think about my proposal to put the calendars up for a pre-sale commitment before we commit to the size of the print run?

And do we have any keen photographers out there keen to get their shots into our calendar? Things have moved along quite a lot in the 3-4 years since the last one, and we would definately include instagram promotions to boost the profile of the photographers that submit an entry etc.

And obviously, during these crazy times of COVID-19 when we are restricted from travelling and told to stay at home, this might be the ideal time to start looking back through your past trip photos to find the perfect image to enter as your submission!

Hi Michelle,

Great idea, count me in for at least one calendar. If the project goes ahead, I will definitely submit a few photos for consideration.

Calendars are great, I love them when they have great Nature photos on them.

I always try to procure a Kimberley photos calendar every year - and I usually have 5 or 6 calendars around the house each year, with top photos on them.

I've got the best Gnaraloo sunset photo you've ever seen, as a contribution!

$20 is O.K. for a good quality calendar. But you have to make sure the information on them is clear (good sized numbers), the phases of the moon are on it, and all the States holidays and school terms. A space for notes is good, too.

Cheers, Ron.

Yes it will be the same as last time - school holidays for all states, National holidays AND state holidays for all states. Big squares for each day (due to being printed on A3 the space allows this). You can see a sample in the screen shots above of previous calendar.

Great idea, Michelle. We'll happily buy 2, and will try to find a suitable photo.

Used to buy the BOM calendars, but have gone off them for a couple of years.

Cheers

Hi Michelle, I’d be happy with pre production sale , that way you’d have a quantity already sold.

When is the latest you can wait until you have to make a decision to go into print? You should have firm prices for the calendar and postage costs by then.

a little before that time call for firm orders. We can place an order then and you will then know if you have enough orders to go to print. If you have an easy way of emailing us all then that will attract the attention of those of us who often have periods where we don't log on or just quickly browse and run.

Thanks to those that have given your support of the general concept. Upon looking at this some more it is apparent that we have to opt for the A4 wire bound that opens up to display A3 (ie. same open size as before but can be folded for smaller postage). It will be the exact same area for photo and dates as the previous calendars we made but enables us to massively reduce the postage cost so we will proceed with the concept on the basis of the A4 calendar from the same Australian printer. I'll start working on this to start the call for photo submissions.

Hi Michelle

Are you thinking landscape or will let depend on the photos that are sent in.

Also would there be an option to post overseas at my cost without you having to post to interstate first maybe ?? Thinking Xmas presents to ????
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike, as per today's newsletter - the Submission Guidelines state landscape please.
Yes we ship anywhere in the world - postage at buyers cost so yes you can send to GB. And yes planning to have available from early Sept so you have plenty of time to send overseas for Xmas.
