Gidday All,Thursday we head to Pormpuraaw from Mackay for a week of Barra fishing. Can anyone enlighten us on the area we are visiting. We have been to the Cape before but not in this area. From what we hear there is quiet a lot of lizards with lots of large teeth in the area. What is the water and fuel situation like.Any points of interest locally ie
rock art etc.
We then head to-wards
Weipa so any info on this area.Any good fishing spots etc.
Any info appreciated
Thanks Locallaw

Hi Locallaw
When you go to
Weipa make the effort to go another 80k to
Mapoon.
Great fishing off the beach for pelagics ie mackeral, queenies etc
If you have a tinny fish the Namalita or Ducie for Barra or the rockbar before the mouth of the Wenlock for great Grunter.
Lots of shoals within easy reach off the main beach at
Cullen Point
You have to get a permit to
camp from Laurie the
ranger and don't forget the grog restrictions
Oh yeah... there are lots of snapping handbags up there too
Have a safe trip
Regards Poppy

Gidday Poppy,We were thinking of going past
weipa and having a look.I will get the maps out and have a look at the area north of
weipa.Sounds really good.I have never caught a barra and only 3 fish on a lure.
Thanks Locallaw
