Good photo, Frank! Delightful place, haven’t been there for almost 60 years.

In 1960, my English teacher, also the English master at high school, berated me for what he assumed(wrongly) was a plagiarised essay, part of the subject being the rock with split, in same NP. Stood up to him & he, begrudgingly I thought, accepted my appeal.

Same bloke gave me “3 of the best” in manual arts building, along with my co-accused, for upsetting our history teacher, so he got me back.

Pretty sure it's the Warrumbungles, but too long ago to recall which mountain it is. Had a great hike with our young boys who laboured up the last of the trail ......... then ran all the way home again ( after some lunch !!)

Thanks Bob. That pic was taken 14 years ago with telephoto from a distance on a hazy day, hence the tinge. Camera was a now well and truly superseded Panasonic DMC-FZ5, a large point-and-shoot.

Yes, pretty hard to have a win against a teacher back then. I got six of the best for turning around in study to borrow an eraser (a rubber back then:-)) off a mate's desk. Probably got a double dose for trying to argue about it!

Bluff mountain the bread knife Warrambungles

Yes, Jim it is the Warrumbungles NP and yes, reggy it's The Breadknife I was after.

IIRC the Breadknife was formed by lava being forced up through a crack in the surrounding rock. That whole volcanic formation is very spectacular

Recognised the ‘Bungles straightaway, Frank. There’s no mistaking the Breadknife! Not sure if we climbed Bluff Mountain or not? Together with my parents, we travelled to the Warrumbungles numerous time in late ‘50’s & early ‘60’s.

On one trip, we climbed Split Rock early one morning, and on reaching the eastern side, near the summit, were amazed to see half a dozen ex-Sydney trams, positioned on a creek flat. A day or so later it rained and we spent a “comfortable”, but dry night in one, before departing for home.
