Newman is the largest town in the East Pilbara region and is a resource town. Aboriginal occupation of the area extends to around 26,000 years by the Martu people,

Just a short note to advise anybody thinking of heading north regiosn of WA via gt northern hwy. Still only applies to Westralian citizens

Be aware very limited options accomdation of any type in Newman. both caravan parks now operated/owned by Mine company as FIFO donga style accommodation. add the covid-19 risk, they won't allow casual use of facilities under OHS requirements.

Mia mia is currently undergoing renovations but folks were referred to there by info centre and put under some form of structure given key to toilets showers and washing machine/dryers $50 for night. Nothing mentioned of the 48 hr self contained stay at info centre, which is currently closed as well.

Be aware very limited medical supplies at the chemists, not sure if this is a supply issue or a minimal stocking issue, if your required to take regular medications for BP etc suggest you have sufficient supplies on hand to carry you over. Folks managed to only fill 1/2 of their prescriptions across the two chemists in town

Stock up on drugs before you leave or when you get to big smoke cities
Ask the chemist to double or even triple your meds, I've had one give me a 6mth supply but I had a good story – working in the bush.
I've only had one chemist refuse to do it so I went back the following day and loaded up

I got a 5 month supply (all he had) by saying I forget to get it refilled each time I run out - it wasn't hard.

FYI my GP will only issue one prescription at time due to "hoarding" and chemists been told to comply with this regulation set by the fed govt so........

now on alternatives or generics over the name brands

With appropriate excuses your GP can endorse your prescription so as to have the whole lot dispensed at one time. Travel has always been a reasonable excuse.

6 months supply in one lot. It is called a "Section #24" from memory.
We always get that when we go bush.

Stayed at Capricorn Village ( behind Capricorn Road House - ~10km south of Newman) the other day - set up for workers ("donga" style) but worked for me.
