Please join me in publicly recognising a couple of our Members who are tirelessly working behind the scenes as Place Administrators.
These 3 guys are actively checking all new
Places and Place updates and checking for duplicates or incorrect positions AND FIXING. They also add extra information than what may have been added by the original contributer (eg. contact details, phone, website links, email addresses, verify facilities, write a more expanded description to ensure it is useful.
They also keep any eye out for photos that are uploaded and incorrectly tagged to the wrong
places - they cannot delete them but they alert me and I deal with it. They will often also upload photos of their own when there is no photo for a Place.
They also let me know when a new Public Place has appeared that should be removed - incorrect, or incomplete. I have a tool to either delete it or just switch it back to Private so that it do upset any work they may be doing with a trip plan that uses that Place.
Some of this stuff anyone can do - you don't need to be a Place administrator to add a new Place, update the basic parts of a Place (such as photos, comments, contacts, or descriptions) but only Place admins can EDIT a Place and only I can DELETE a place.
Anyone can alert us to errors but Place admins have access to edit all the specific database features of a Place (the Place Name, the Type of Place and its extra Attributes - this puts the symbols for facilities at a Place). They can also fix position errors - ie. lat/long coordinates.
Our system is dynamic which means any
Places added/edited or removed is done live on the server - and when new
ExplorOz Traveller app users tap that Download button in the Data Manager they get the latest version of the
Places database downloaded to their device - existing app users only have to tap the "update" button.
I would like these guys to know how much we appreciate the time they put into helping everyone who uses this data.
Whilst we have more Place admins than those listed below, these are the 3 names that I keep seeing in the logs recently - thank you:
Frank P, Kevin S, and Warrie (NSW) !!!!!
