Looking for a bit of info on these portable type jump starters.--they look and sound pretty handy, especially for maybe the wife or daughter etc, has anyone ventured into this field of jump starting a flat battery? I.ve googled a lot about them, but first hand knowledge by a happy or unhappy user would be more valuable--Cheers.....SapperD

Good morning Sapper,
We brought one from Costco, it starts the Ranger and my brothers 1969 ford escort, It does the job quite effectively, which amazed me, but when you need something to get you mobile they do the job. there are a multitude of them in the market place and the prices vary dramatticly.
I don't know how much we paid for it,but I was allowed to purchase it, so it was within her budget, and it works very well so far.

I bought one a few years back, can't remember the brand.
I was skeptical but started several cars with it, and used it several times to help fellow campers out as well, and these were big diesel donks.
It eventually swelled up, but I believe this was user error as I hooked it up to our lights a few nights in a row and it didn't like that.
When my youngest gets her can that will be the first addition she will get from me, can be a life saver

Good morning Sapper,
Just some more information I have just returned from my mates place after Jump starting his v8 landcruiser wit my Cosco jump start kit, I was a bit sceptical to try it on a v8 but it did the job, we just let it sit for a few minutes before trying to start the vehicle but it worked. If it had not worked I have my thumper on board and jump er leads, but it worked.
there wasn't much charge left in the pack when I put it on charge as it only had one light showing when it usually has five when fully charged.
good luck finding the right one for you

Those lithium battery jump starters do deliver starting currents but not intended for use as a storage battery. However., it is only any good IF it is charged to be able to deliver. The challenge is, after not using it enjoying trouble free motoring is it going to be charged, in the glove box way into the future when need arises?????? Having a regular/periodic maintenance charge which most of the population isn't going to observe/do is going to be the problem. Great for the aware type of motorist, probably not so good for the unaware of anything type of driver.

G'day Sapper,
Got a few friends we travel with that have them. Laughed the first time someone produced one but had to eat my words as it workedwell. Seen them used a few times & provided you use the right spec for the intended vehicle they work well.
Great for a short high amp crank but not very good for charging items as they flatten quickly with a few items plugged in.
Good for their intended purpose of jump starts though.

Cheers
Stu

Hi there Sapper
That was perfectly timed ! I've just come off the driveway where my BIL went to start his quite new Hi-lux, and nothing. Took out his little "starter", hooked it up, was a bit worried when it showed 70%, but he started up perfectly. They work !

Cheers

Be careful starting something which has "nothing". That indicates the battery isn't being part of the charging circuit if it happens that way. Very similar thing happened recently to friend of mine going to Adelaide, before the Wuhan Flu. RACV man didn't check battery at all, just said flat, but if started 20 mins before. Battery failed totally failed RACV genius started the car with a Lithium Whiz Bang and said OK to drive, so they did, to Adelaide. 600km away. A while after it was noticed the Climate control wasn't working, OH well! Got to Adeleaide after NOT switching off vehicle the whole way and found the SA Merc dealer reported, New battery AND $4000 + for a new climate control system. RACV removal of starter and subsequent voltage flare of the alt system totalled the Climate control. Expensive, if you don't check the battery can actually act as a battery, it seems. Just a jump start may be the beginning of problems for the uninitiated.

Jim, --I noticed you mentioned your BOL started his Hi Lux with one, can you remember the brand name?---one of the queries I have is what size/brand do I need to jump a toyota 200 series or similiar.---I assume there are smaller ones for smaller cars and vice versa for bigger

Hi Sapper,

BOL, BIL, how about brother-in-law !

Anyway, it's called a Multi Function Jump Starter, by E-Power, model JS25.

Don't know anything about it at all ..... but it did start the Toyota easily.

Cheers

Sapper I was at a battery shop, they sold battery jump starters and had a Noco GB70. I asked if it would start my 200 so the guy confidently said yes, let's give it a try.

I disconnected my battery and he connected it. I started it just like any other start, no hesitation at all.

I was very impressed to say the least. They don't seem to get great youtube reviews though

I've had a Suaoki brand portable jump starter for five years now. I carry it with me on the quad for a flat battery emergency and it's also able to charge other accessories should the necessity arise.

It's been pretty damn good and easily cranks over the 79 series. I'll make the distinction that if your battery is totally drained, the unit will have difficulty starting it from such a deep loss but for those little mishaps that occur from time to time, it's been a solid performer on both H/D diesels or the wife's shopping trolley.

Mine was the Suaoki G7 model 18000ma. I notice they've moved on a bit since then although ones similar to my model are available from generic producer/suppliers for around the $110 mark.

Some details on what the models are capable of HERE.

Hope this is of assistance.

I have an Itechworld 2000CCA/20000 mAH starter that I bought from Itechworld in Perth
I have used it to start my Prado when the battery was flat . It started it easily.
The Charger shows the level of charge and also incorporates a Light and
also contains leads to enable you to charge your Camera, phone ,Tablet etc.
My wife uses that part when we are bush camping without Power.
I do not work for the company but have been very happy with their online service and the quality of the unit.
The name of the company is iTechworld 281 Great eastern Highway Burswood WA
