Post office

I know many travellers have their mail sent to a post office they plan on visiting in the near future.
What is this service called, I need to see if I can use it in a city post office.

Cheers.

works very well at larger locations but when you are having mail sent to smaller post offices, make sure to add
"please hold will be collected by xxxx"
ive had a couple of small PO return the mail because they didnt recognise my name and werent aware of Post restante
also add your ph number and they will often call you to advis its arrived

If you go to the Australia Post website and create/log into a "MyPost" account you can set up alternate delivery addresses. It's quite simple to use.

You go "add alternative address", put in the location (eg Broome) and it will show you all the possible locations in that area. Click on one and then add it.

You get an address something like:
Fred Nurk
Parcel Collect XXXXX XXXXX
Paspaley Plaza, Shop 27, 8 Short Street
Broome WA 6725

where the X's are your Aus Post number.

Have used the service many times & have found Auspost to be far more reliable than many of the courier services, particularly in more remote areas. Even used that Parcel Collect Short st address in Broome for a while! :)

Currently I have the arrangement by default. We have a street address we use, but there are no home deliveries, so all mail gets dropped at the local LPO a few kms away & we collect from there even though our street address has been used. It's nice in tuny communities like this to walkinto the post & receive a smile of recognition before the post mistress disappears out the back to grab my parcels for me.

C/- works as well as Post Restante.

And if your plan has changed, you can contact the PO and get them to forward the item.

I always put 'please hold, xxxx will collect' because ive had smaller post office branches decide that there is no one in the area by that name so they return to sender

Just take care about your default address in eBay and PayPal if buying online.

You can easily add an address to them but do this before checking out.

No worries. I have changed my ebay address to my brother in QLD and he will forward it on.
Thanks.
