Seeing that we are not in our home state I hope this thread will be classed as travelling.

We have to stay in a unit for a while and it has no wifi and a non smart TV.

We have a strong telstra air connection so can log on to our home account and use the ipad successfully but want to get it on to the TV screen.

We were told chromecast would work so bought one, but it can not be connected to telstra air or to our phone hotspots, needs to be through a router with an internet connection.

Anybody have any suggestions that they know works?

Thanks for any help.

Heard of it being done with an iPad connection to VGA adapter.
Maybe your local electronics place ( Jaycar ? ) may have one.
Get a VGA cable as well and connect the 2 together.
Then set the TV input ( Menu) to VGA and watch TV programs full size.

we use an Apple Lightning Digital AV adaptor which connects to HDMI cable. Make sure to use genuine Apple one about $75 as we brought a cheap one and it wouldn't work. It works a treat. Was able to watch my tv shows and downloaded Netflix series easily while on holidays.

It probably doesn't work because Telstra Air uses the wifi network, so your phone's wifi is connected to that and the Chromecast can't. You could probably make it work by disconnecting from Air and just use the 4G connection for your internet which should free up the wifi for a connection that the Chromecast can actually use because the phone's hotspot will become a router funneling the internet via 4G. Streaming over 4G will chew some data though.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Going to talk to telstra tomorrow.
We are paying about 90 a month for our home service and it is only getting used for the security system so hoping they can downgrade that then connect us here.

They seem very helpful when you are out of plan.

If they cant offer any help we will have to work out the next most economic solution that jas been suggested.

.
With the state of current TV programs, is it even worth the trouble?
Unless of course you are hooked on Covid-19 reports.

The ABC may be reasonable, but who will admit to watching the ABC? lol

Cheers

Agree about the tv shows, but we can get all the FTA broadcasts, thats why we need to stream chanels such ad netflix, stan and disney. If you search them long enough you can turn up a few good shows.

Well made a decission.
Seeing we already had the chromecast after following some bad advice and we also have a google home assistant that also wouldnt work on telstra air or mobile phone hotspot we went for a telstra celular modem, either way we needed an internet connection of our own over here cause telstra air is to undependable speed wise and to get enough download on aur phones would have cost just as much.

Thanks for your suggestions.
