G'day all, is there such a thing as a hi gain FM radio ariel that can be mounted on your bullbar for extra strength of signal? Any suggestions on make or model? thanks

Have a look at the Prestige Communication website
here
They have a selection of AM/FM aerials that might suit you. Axis also sell a couple of versions. Andrews Communications, in
Sydney, also stock these aerials.
These aerials make a huge difference to AM performance, but have never tested the FM side of things.

I think even the best hi gain FM antenna will help in valleys and in fringe areas, but it wont really extend the range much. It will still cut in and out if you are having problems, just less often.
I know this isn't your question. But have you considered using a radio app on your phone and Bluetooth to the car. That way you can get any radio station anywhere in the world as long as you have phone reception.
Apps like tunein or radio app Australia are great.

In our Nissan Civilian bus based motorhome we had two identical radios. One in the driving cab & one at the rear next to our bed. The front one had a standard type telescopic antenna mounted on the Vehicle's A Pillar, extending to a foot or so above the roofline. The rear had a marine ZCG Scalar antenna (
ZCG Scalar antenna) mounted on a fold down bracket. There were many occasions when we had either a barely useable or no signal on the front radio & a perfect signal on the rear. I put it down to the combination of a better quality antenna & greater height of the antenna on the vehicle.

I have one on the RH front Guard of my D2.
I get 2GB reasonably At
Avoca Beach and FM stations in
Sydney clearly.( which is a big improvement over the RH rear window antenna)
Of course it could be mounted on the bullbar but you may need a long coax which would perhaps reduce the signal strength.
You would have to make sure you have a sound earth from the antenna to the car body .
