How many travellers have cruised out to see BIG RED from Birdsville and have thought they were on top and climbed it easy................... and then later found out they were on "little red"????...........
I may not have known either but was lucky because we came in from the Desert and couldnt help tripping over BIG RED.....

I don't think anyone who goes to Birdsville misses Big Red Voxy! You underestimate their ability to find their way around I think! I got over it easily (oh what a feeling!) but the TD Disco just couldn't get enough ooomph to crest it. I offered to snatch him over but he declined and took the chicken run. He was quite accustomed to taking the chicken run as we had crossed the desert and many of the dunes were too much for him.

OK. I haven't been to Birdsville yet. So how big is Big Red?

The largest dune I've climbed so far is Calcup Hill, which rises about 160 meters from base to top. How do the two compare?

Big Red, the dune, runs north/west south/east for about 300km

At its highest point it is 90metres Above Sea Level !!!!!

Old Big Red crossing is 30 metres(65m ASL) in height above the dune corridor and Little Red crossing is 19 metres(58m ASL) above the dune corridor. Refer to my post 12658

Crossed the Simpson in 02 no problems with 3L hilux all depends on how wet or dry the sand is to how low you let the the tyre pressures down to when we were there sand was hot and very sort the pressure that got us over with no wheel spin and thrashing the guts out of the car (long way home) was 11psi
