Tiwi Islands

Has anyone done a short tour to the Tiwi Islands from Darwin in the past? (I know COVID closed off this option for much of 2020).
We're thinking of leaving our gear in Darwin and taking the ferry over for a night or two to visit both Bathurst and Melville Islands, although I note most of the marketing emphasis is on the main population centre on Bathurst.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Use to go over there at various times for work. Definitely worth the effort to go. Some great scenery and generally the people are very hospitable. Great fishing once you get to know the locals!!

If you can get over there when the Grand Final is on, its a great day out and an experience. I've been over a few times and usually fly as it gives you more time on the island. I went by boat once however but got seasick on the way back as the swells were huge.
I hope you have somewhere safe in Darwin to leave your gear if you are going overnight. I'm not saying Darwin is particularly bad for theft but no point temping fate if leaving a car parked overnight full of gear.

It would be the local Grand Final.

I sent one final shout after him to stick to the track, to which he replied “All right,” That was the last ever seen of Gibson - E Giles 23 April 1874

Thanks for that Tony. Unfortunately our time won't coincide with the footy grand final, which I think is in March. Would be a great experience to see that in view of the talent they produce.
And wise words on safe vehicle storage.....we will be leaving car and camper on site at a caravan park, so hopefully secure enough.

Be very careful where you leave your car in Darwin if your going to Tiwi Islands. Darwin has a high theft rate just like any other city in Australia. Couple of years ago about 20 cars got broke into one night in the Airports security car park, I bet the on duty security guards would have some explaining to do.
