Gidday all,
We are travelling through Queensland in mid Oct this year with kids and caravan in tow, we want to get to
Cairns from Mt Isa, my question is, once we've gone through Mt Isa (heading east) and then
Cloncurry do we head North through to
Normanton,
Croydon etc to
Cairns or do we continue on the Flinders Highway to Charters Towers then Gregorys Dev Rd connecting with the Flinders once more and continuing on.
Which is the better drive and more kiddie freindly.
Thanks in advance.
Mick

Mick
The Normanton/
Croydon route has long stretches with nothing much in between towns, if you have kids with you then the Flinders Highway option might be the better one, ie more towns along the way and a bit more variety in the scenery (nothing worse than bored kids ay?).
Either way you are on bitumen all the way, it depends on how much of the "Outback" you want to see.

Hi Mick,
While you guys are around
Cairns there is Hartleys Croc
farm thats worth a visit if you can spare a whole day(it's worth it). Then there is
Daintree Village just past
Port Douglas also worth a visit.

I would go the mt isa to
hughenden then nth up the Kennedy developmental rd which will take you past the Porcupine
gorge (camping etc) and come thru the back of the table lands (
Ravenshoe) this is by far the shorter route than charters and the rd is more scenic. Also easy to get to undara tubes at Mt Surprise for a detour.
With kids I prefer the most direct route...........lol

Thanks for the info Slammin,
Whats the Kennedy Developmental Rd like, we have 4WD but caravan is not an off road. We are trying to keep the caravan off the gravel if possible.
