Hi all
May I ask suggestions from you, i am after a hard shell RTT, that lift up from one end, prefered to the ones with the parrellel roof. Reason is want to mount on the top of a camping trailer with an opening facing forward to enable walk up from ground to draw bar ,storage box into tent. Obviously not mounted very high.
perhaps a 5 x 7 high side box trailer , side awning mount with 270 deg awning also. Any suggestions on a decent quality Rtt
many thanks
Keiron

What's the point of having a rooftop tent on top of a camper trailer? Is this for quick stops when setting up the camper is a pain? And then you have an RTT stopping the camper trailer opening.
Sorry I can't help ........ because I just don't get it.

Cheers
Jim

Maybe the "Camping trailer"is a storage trailer only, no bed in side?

Take a trailer and put a tent on it and it is now a camper trailer.

More than a few motorbike trailers, boat trailers and box trailers with ladder racks over the load area that have become campers by the addition of a RTT.

Ah yes, I see now. Forward opening RTT might be a bit rare though.

Cheers

Ones with an opening facing forward are going to be a bit thin on the ground as I'd imagine manufactures like the leading edge to be sealed to reduce the chance of rain entering the tent when in transit.

You could look at something like one of these as even though it opens to a side, you can still enter through the ends.

thanks all for the replies, the drifta unit looks good as u tell me u can access from ends. Idea of "walkup"i actually got from a drifta site, unit shown in the video no longer avail. Do not want a rtt mounted too high wife not keen on ladder. Will still carry further tent and gear for longer stops. Idea is a 4 x6 maybe a 4 x 5 , due to storage space. Get one localy made in Perth. Any recomendations
Many thanks

Tyler Thompson that does a lot of travel vids has one on the roof of his ute. For quite a while all he did was climb into it off the tray.

THE PERFECT TOURING ROOFTOP TENT!?

I have Boss Aluminium RTT mounted on a trailer in the exact setup the topic starter is talking about.
You can mount any clam shell rtt that way mate.

This is my setup.

I wonder if the Eezi Awn Dart could be oriented the way you are thinking?

TentWorld have them here: https://www.tentworld.com.au/buy-sale/eezi-awn-dart-roof-top-tent

Fair enough, makes sense. Bit of a write up on them here (https://outdoorexplorer.com.au/best-roof-top-tents-australia/), I've been tossing up between them and a few other options

I would not buy eezi awn, if you look closer in the video you will see that top part closes over bottom section, it does not seal 100%. Same goes for Bundutop (I had it and returned it due to poor seal and winch motor problem)

Better to buy Australian made Camp King or Boss Aluminium, et least you know there is a local support and great warranty if you need it.
