I am going to Kilcowera at
Easter and wonder if Diesel is available at
Hungerford. I cannot find any reference to it anywhere that is recent.
Any info would be appreciated

Fuel used to be available at the pub. Maybe a phone call to confirm.
Cheers
Jim

When we were there there were no fuel pumps in sight. We had to drive around the back of the pub. The fuel (petrol and diesel) was stored in elevated tanks. The delivery was a pipe hanging down from the two tanks with a meter on the bottom end. The meters were the type used on the bulk delivery tankers that used to supply our
home heating oil. The fuel was delivered by gravity.
Someone from the bar would come out at a convenient (to them) time and serve you. The before and after readings were noted on a piece of paper. You then proceeded to the bar with the attendant where they would work out the amount of fuel dispensed and the price on their handheld calculator. You then had the honour of paying them for their service.
There is an entry for them in
Petrol Spy Australia. Currently, there are no prices listed. Could you please update the site after you fill up there.

How antiquated. Probably couldn't even get a latte at the bar either. :)

The system has worked
well for many decades. I don't think any fuel company is going to provide an expensive pump system out there for the amount of fuel they sell. If electric fuel pumps break down it can sometimes take weeks for them to be serviced. The town is then without fuel for that time. If one of those reliable meters should ever break down the locals just replace it with the spare.
I think it is a great system. You are not likely to get stuck in town just because there has been an electro-mechanical
breakdown.

Same delivery system at Mt. Dare, and I dare say many other outback fuel suppliers.

Its a great little pub. We had lunch and a beer in there on the way to the Exploroz gathering at kilcowera a few years ago
Steak sandwich was the only choice on the menu and it was very good.
You can also get supplies and fuel at
Thargomindah which is just north of kilcowera
