Cheap alum angle, a few pop rivets- added my mobile to my Tablet mount

I'm pleased with the outcome of today's time in the shed.. My S21 Mobile is now mounted alongside my 10.1" tablet. $10 worth of aluminium angle and a handful of pop rivets, some fuel hose and a few cable ties and I've extended the existing RAM Mount for the S21. A few strategically placed cable ties to help support the RAM mount arm and I think it'll cope just fine with corrugations and rough tracks.

Its nice to have Hema AND ExplorOz Traveller showing at the same time.. I'd put ExplorOz Traveller on the big screen, but my old faithful tablet wont run the latest version - its about to be retired for a shiney new one and ExplorOz Traveller will get promoted to the big screen.

Rather disappointingly Kiichiro Toyoda didnt see fit to install either USB points or Drink Holders as factory options.. very short sighted of him :(

The mounting position might interfere with the passenger side airbag if it deploys.

Good work Duncan2H - sorry but I would have used small bolts instead of pop rivets.

I've had bad experiences with rivets in my CUB camper trailer.

cheers

would nutserts (rivnuts to some) be a option allow bolting un bolting as required ?

Good to see pity it wouldn't be allowed to happen in a new vehicle air bag sensors etc

Nice idea and handy for use but to have that "hanging" on the side of a proprietary screen mount it will be subjected to that unseen force called INERTIA. Just because you regard it will survive corrugated road, it may have a different opinion. Most similar items made are made a light as possible. I cannot see any lightening holes on the material to reduce inertia stresses. Does it have a suspension system to absorb forces like the springs and shocks under the ute does? Maybe an Okky strap from floor to mount and from mount to roof may centralize/ assist in the device staying in place. Many part you made could be tapered to reduce weight and holes drilled where strength isn't an issue. The Aluminium plate could be "Swiss Cheesed" and still perform it's function. Alternatively, a cushion on top of the Esky could be used as a support if things don't go to plan.

Thanks! I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to consider the design and offer some suggestions for improvements. I'll take all of that into consideration as it all sounds very sensible. I'm hoping for a shakedown trip this weekend and will re-assess afterwards. Cheers.

Make that a donut pillow on the Esky to save even more weight.

@Duncan 2H. When the shiny new Tab arrives you could choose to use split screen and run two apps at once .
