If the vehicle was written off by the insurance company, but still operable it would be a statutory write off. And put on a register.
As such is uninsurable.
Doesn't take much damage to write a vehicle off these days.
Best argument for agreed value policies available.

It’s a repairable write off not statutory, there is a difference !
My post was definitely not a scam, I was asking for advice and after a lot of stressful research I finally found a company that would give us some sort of cover! I thought the information may be helpful to someone else in this position!

The ins company decided to write off my vehicle with $14500 damage. I was advised by the company that it was a repairable wrie off and would payout $17500. I spoke to the repairer in Mt Isa and ask him to requote as a private job. The quote came back at $9800. I accepted that and bought the 'wreck' for $3500.
& 7 weeks later I drove it home no problems at all and preceded to have the vehicle re registered with NSW authority which is another story for later. Nevertheless it all happened without any tears.
Still driving it! PS. I paid for a permit to drive it back home as the rego had runout.
