But the "Fairy circles" are created by.....

I always just thought they were big old plants or clumps, and die off in the middle. Didn’t think about there being no new ones coming up in the circle. I would guess that sometime down the track something would grow there.
I wonder what happens after a fire, as I think where spinifex has got to the “ring stage” that country hasn’t been burnt for a fair while.
I hope this research actually produces something beneficial, other than already employing someone. Otherwise Could be just a “useless piece of
information “

Doesn't it simply grow outward from the centre which has to be circular by nature of it. Maybe the start dies off. The centre on many plants do similar. I hope the scientist didn't get paid valuable research funds to discover something which has such vital importance. Mushroom do grow in a circular pattern, amazing, now where are my research $'s?
