Article Comment: Roper Bar

Hi there. Looking at doing Mataranka to Roper Bar to Borooloola in late Jul/early Aug 2021. There is lots of old info on this section f road but nothing recent......
1. FYI ...Trek Note doesn't mention Roper Bar fuel yet I'm pretty certain that there is now fuel avail ie "Roper Bar Park & Store" is on fb & replied to my msg a few days ago "Hello Drew, Yes we do have both Opal and Diesel available on site from our bowser. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on bookings@roperbarpark.com.au or (08) 8975 4636 or https://www.facebook.com/Roperbarpark/"
2. Anyone done that section recently that can report on the road condition? I'm travelling in a well prepared LC200 & offroad caravan but don't want to unnecessarily destroy the van!!

Mataranka to Roper Bar is bitumen.
In my experience, everywhere will be cheaper than Roper Bar by a big margin. They are under 200km apart. https://petrolspy.com.au/map/station/5a3750a777a61e0a3014ea69
Mataranka diesel is $1.45 at the moment. Roper Bar is $2.00.

Hi Drew
I did that trip four weeks ago. The dirt roads had been recently graded but never the less required lower tyre pressures and careful driving . WATCH the dips, most are OK but just tend to lull you into a false sense of security. There a about half a dozen that are real bastards if not shown respect. One I didn’t show sufficient respect to bounced a full 20 Ltr Jerry of water out of its holder. My fault entirely but a real wake up call.
Mostly flat country but on the inclines travel on the right hand side if sight lines are good enough to minimise the corrugations
Great trip, would do it again tomorrow
