Covid permitting, I hope to get to the above for the first time around April-May next year. The plan is Anne Beadell Hwy. from C. Pedy then Mount Davies Road. I understand that the ABH can be pretty rough in places but haven't seen anything on Mt. Davies. According to the maps I have seen so far, fuel is pretty scarce as well except a couple of places near The Corner. I have 2013 Mazda BT-50 and will be carrying 70-80 litres of extra fuel. Not towing anything. Any info, suggestions, etc. greatly appreciated.

Hi Stephen,

My understanding was that Mount Davies Road was off-limits without a special permit.

Might pay to check; I'd be interested to find out if they are issuing permits now.

Cheers
Alan

Looking for adventure.

I'll be trying to find out more of that sort of thing closer to my planned time. Thanks for the "heads-up", anyway.

“ I'll be trying to find out more of that sort of thing closer to my planned time “

That’s one thing you never do……

Remote trip planning takes a long time in advance to properly plan and organise and nothing you can just do at the last moment.

Stephen L. I am reasonably aware of the planning times needed but I certainly agree with your point. By the way, your name is spelt the "correct" way. :)

Couple of pointers for you……..

First point is that the track now is almost totally non existent.

It is through the APY Lands and you will not get a permit to travel it……period

You say fuel is scarce?……….from Coober Pedy, your only next fuel will be Warakurna……so nothing along the way.

If you try to sneak through, how many spare tyres are you going to take, you will have countless tyre damage.

The only legal way to the corner is down and back from Warakurna (Giles) in WA.

Like Stephen L says, forget it unfortunately. It's not going to happen. I tried for years.

Not even Connie Sue and Mick Hutton can get permission to go on the Mt Davies track after trying for years. And her dad made the track and every track around it.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Three years ago it cost $100 to visit the Corner.

Yes, down from Warakurna, but not the Mount Davies Road.

To all of the above, thanks for the info. It was a major part of why I put the post on this forum. Can't see myself doing the W.A. entry for quite some time, if ever. No probs. Will look for elsewhere. Once again, appreciate the input.

Hi Stephen H15,

What is the issue for you getting into W.A.? Is it just the long way around via The Nullarbor? You can travel up the Stuart Highway, then the Lasseter Highway through Yulara and on to the Great Central Road through Docker River to Warakurna (Giles), you can access Surveyor Generals Corner from there. Fuel is available at Docker River and Warakurna. Permits are required of course.

Just in case you are not aware, there is actually two corner posts at Surveyor Generals Corner. It is a “dog leg” corner. The second post is about 200 meters further along the track around a corner.

Macca, the main problem getting into WA is the Covid/G2G fiasco (see Thread 142282) and the attitude of WAPOL.

Even McGowan can't/doesn't explain the rejections while those WITH a G2G are facing a stone wall.

Whether this is likely to be any better in a year's time is anybody's guess, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

Macca. Mainly planned a certain time frame + costs. Certainly doable if restrictions allow, etc. etc. Might plan/dream for this one further down the track. Will try to talk to the Minister of Finance (wife) about a treat for my 70th. in about 2 years' time or so. A solo trip, of course, as I want to enjoy it. Cheers. :) :)

We did a couple of trips thru APY land, including Mt Davis tk back around 2009, only gaining access because my mate organising it had developed a friendship with one of the elders of the community. In the years following they stopped anyone from going there including us.

Really nice country and interesting, and yes you do need a lot of spare tyres to get thru.
