As part of a trip we have planned we will travel back to Victoria from
Gregory ntl park. We like the idea of travelling from the Buntine Hwy at Kalkarindji (wave
hill) to the Tanami Rd via Lajamanu and Picininny
Bore.
My query relates to that particular track/road, is it used regularly, and ideas of current conditions.
We plan to be there in around 7 weeks, and understand lots can/ will change in the meantime.
Our ‘group’ will be 2 experienced couples, both towing very capable camper off road camper trailers.
I look forward to any responses and thank you.
Rob.

RobnJan, it comes up on Google maps so must be "doable", LOL. I have thought about travelling this track also, so will be interesting to see if others have travelled it recently. Good luck.

If that track takes in any Aboriginal communities chances it will be closed to the general public like most tracks and roads that aren't mainstream at the moment.

Thanks Nick,
Yes, we know we’ll be lucky to do what we want on this trip. Plenty of a, b,c, plans may be required.

Rob : you've got that right.. our plan was to travel out through there to the
Kimberley but covid restrictions from the territory at the time meant we had to go via Nullarbor Goldfields
Broome adding a few extra kilometres to our trip . so many of the roads in the outback are closed to the general public . WA have a website listing all of the closed communities so maybe the Northern Territory may have the same .
Good luck .

I drove up Lajamanu Road from the Tanami to Buntine Highway in June 2015. The road was generally in good condition and had been graded.

There were a few
camp spots. The most attractive one was on Winnecke Creek south of Lajamanu.

Winnecke Creek
Lajamanu looked like a prosperous community and had a surprisingly large airport. Diesel $2.08.
Keep an eye on the weather at Lajamanu. It may not rain cats and dogs but it does rain fish!

Excellent news
John, thanks for this, a road rather than track.
Thanks again,
Rob.
