Was just having a look at an update web site of a 4x4 club (which is incorporated/constitutionalised) and kept getting all these advertising pop ups which were giving me the you know whats.
The thought crossed my mind as to whether they would be in breach of their non profit organisational status and tax exemptions.
Food for thought.

Doubt it.

Most free webhosts have popups EG geocites etc, nothing to do with the website itself. They have no control over it, as they make $0 from it.

its the price you pay for free web hosting.

Associations to have to make a profit so as to run their organisation. The profits however are distributed to the running of the organisation and are not for distribution to members. That is what is known as Non Profit. You are allowed to made a profit and have that money in a bank account otherwise how else would your club/association survive?

Thanks Willem

Your spot on mate. I'm Treasurer of two incorporated non-profit organisations and our tax free ruling is based on members receiving no remuneration either in money or kind. They may certainly make profits and both my clubs have term deposits and investments for the benefit of the clubs stated reasons for being.

Cheers
