Just got back from a jaunt around the Mid-west & Gascoyne Outback regions via Kennedy Range NP and Mt Augustus. Had a great time and were very impressed with this largely undiscovered and underated region. We'll certainly be heading back that way.

Sometimes it's a case of being in the right place at the right time...A big thanks to a fellow formumite (he know's who he is) whom we ran into quite by chance but turned out to be a great host and we were very priviledged when he took us out to show us 4 of the original Mullewa-De Grey stock route wells that he has rediscovered the location of. In fact, over the last 2 years he's located 41 of the 52 wells along the stock route, forging tracks to and from and trying to organise access with station owners. His ultimate aim is to re-open the stock route to 4wd enthusiasts and history buffs and I can say with absolute confidence, if the rest of the stockroute is as interesting as the small taste he gave us, this is definitely something to look forward to.

Melissa,

One thing about being off travelling is that others miss your posts and it has been that way in your case. Welcome back aboard. I am sure we would love to see a lot more written about the area when you have the time.

Fellow EO forumite members have turned out to be great people we have learned ourselves and the relationships are fantastic. Perhaps he will disclose the trek a little more in the future as a development

Thanks John. Re the stock route, I believe opening it up for all is indeed his intention.

Hi Rick,

Kids travel so well I can't help swelling with pride when I think about it. Didn't start out this way however. Shelby has always HATED being in the car, generally screaming from the moment she got in to the moment she got out. We actually would have gone away sooner but we kept putting it off in the hope she would get better. Anyway, the first 3 days on the road with her were a nightmare. The day we left home she was screaming before we got to the bottom of the driveway and it took us 2 hours to clear Perth outer limits. By the end of day 3 my husband said he wasn't going another km further from home and it took a bit of coaxing from me to get him to do so. We're pleased we did because for some reason she turned the corner and we barely heard a murmur from her for the rest of the trip. She's a gun traveller now :-)))).

Nissan and trailer went well. Only very minor problem was having to plug a tyre after we picked up a small stone. Camp oven got it's usual workout...lamb roast, beef casserole, shepherd's pie, beef pot roast, several dampers, 2 loaves bread, a cake and a batch of scones. Didn't try any new recipes this time but can recommend Dolmio's new range of stir-through pasta sauces. They come in a handy 2 serve size "pouch" which packs well. With the two littlies and a few long days in the car, I knew there'd be days when I wanted a quick and easy meal idea. These sauces fitted the bill perfectly and tasted great especially when I added a bit of diced bacon and/or diced canned mushrooms.

Anyway, hopefully I'll have the trip journal and pics up on our website in a couple of weeks.

PS: Read any good books lately? I recently finished the Dig Tree by Sarah Murgatroyd which was fabulous.

Glad you read the book. I got Luke to read it (10 years old) and he did a school project on the book and we both loved it. Can't wait to get to Corner Country in September. I will have to read it again before we go.

Hi Bob,

Once Shelby got over her car woes (see my reply to Rick above) she was great. Took to the camper and the great outdoors like she was born to it. Every morning we'd prop her on her tummy up on our bed with the windows open and 270 degree views of the great outdoors. She absolutely loved it...kept her occupied for ages.

Hi Melissa, Glad to see you back safe and well and I suppose back to the grind stone to save for the next trip. LOL Great news about the stock route, perhaps it could be an EO gathering to launch such an attraction ?
Mrs Pesty has this tincy wincy problem you may be able to help her with, she has forgotten the babys name? Anyway how does she like camping, Wide eyed at everything she saw?
14 weeks to go for our next ( know now) grandson !!

Hi Steve,

Bub's name is Shelby and yes, back to the grindstone...blah! Save my poor typing fingers have a look at my replies to Rick and Bob above. Sounds like your counting the days (understandably) till grandson arrives. Spent a few nights in Carnarvon CVP on the way home and Shelby and Matthew both got heaps of attention from the grey nomad sect who were all missing their grandkids LOL.
