Hello

After any recommendations on a first hand basis as to where I could get a rebuild done on my gearbox

Transfer Case was rebuilt 12m ago but lack of funds didn't stretch to get the gb done at the same time ( probably a good thing)

There are several adelaide based repairers that I wouldn't take it to based on poor past experiences, including the shop that did the transfer case rebuild.

Cheers

Have used these guys in the past for a Landcruiser gearbox/Transfer rebuild 100,000Km or so ago.

https://www.precisiondiffandgear.com.au/

They also have some good reviews also on Google.

I got in contact with them and Peter the manager replied with a detailed response

The transfer case cannot be unbolted from the gearbox as I mistakenly thought but needs to be disassembled to access the gearbox

This changes the scenario, will now drive it onto the ground and then when it starts giving me problems do an exchange

Had I been informed of this by the workshop that i use , my approach would have different, perhaps they saw additional dollars coming their way, well guess what guys....

Re (I used some Nulon G70 in all sections of my HJ61 diffs, tc and gearbox and some Nulon auto trans additive in the steering, as a way of prolonging life.)

Suggest you definitely use Nulon as RMD comments above, I also use it in my engine oil but a different Nulon product.

I would imagine that would be inclusive of the transfer case but will check, some places won't seperate

I had mine rebuilt t/f , g/b about about 310,000km ago when I first bought it, still shifts ok but I'm starting to detect some very slight bearing noise, still good but just starting to look at options and budget for that

I can get a reconditioned t/f and g/b with terain tamer bits swap over from Orientals at Lonsdale but as I mentioned only interested in the G/Box at this stage

hi
T/fer and g/box are available separate from Toyota . As I mentioned earlier Tojam boxes have been upgraded gradually over the years . If yours needs multiple hard parts ,cost wise a new unit will look good .
If u choose to rebuild the business needs to be competent .

I rang the local toyota dealer here and enquiried, new gearbox $4600 and $ 2990 for the transfer case

No stock in Australia and the guy said even if they put an order in it may get rejected and could not tell me a delivery timeframe

The business that I took it to I have used for several years, it was run by an older gent and his apprentice,

Several years ago the older gent retired and the business was taken over by his apprentice.

I have noticed little things started to change, it has become apparent that the standard and quality that the original business owner strived for has not been continued by the new owner. Needless to say I won't bother going back.

Live and learn, its getting very difficult to find a workshop that does decent work, don't mind paying for quality workmanship but its getting harder

In the off chance you can't get it rebuilt and there is some bearing noise you may benefit form using some Nulon G70 additive in the gearbox to assist lubrication and smooth running.
Years ago a friend bought an EX Telecom HJ60 which had VERY noticeable noise of bearings in gearbox. We added Nulon G70 to it and later, much later, after another 80,000km he could afford bearing replacement.
I used some Nulon G70 in all sections of my HJ61 diffs, tc and gearbox and some Nulon auto trans additive in the steering, as a way of prolonging life.

Hello there!

Is it an auto or stick? I got an auto done at DRW Automatics

They do a drive-in and come pick-up later, the whole thing took about a week, and I count myself lucky for that. They are a bit more expensive than the average corner shop, but it was completely worth it, period.

i see a mentions on EBay and Gumtree for H55F. suggest looking up on line reviews of repair places or if industry body member/ recommended by motor mags/ or RACV or MTAS , VACC --members have industry code of conduct. or Vic consumer affairs online for any listed bad boys.
I see fair bit of info on net aboutr this model. Toyo's usually good, i liked my Patrol but.

and .. on boxes: see Holden Cruze .
