Hi Folks
A few years back a mate made up a LARGE GE map of the whole
Roper River for me. Used SAS Planet and GE.
I've just got a new computer, duel screens, and thought right. I'm going to teach myself how to do that.
Only to find GE is now useless unless you have an internet connection -(
Anyone across this issue?
Google Earth
Regards
Lyndon

Hi
So, are you saying you can access ALL of GE with NO internet connection?

Just double checked Lyndon. Looks like it is hit and miss. Some areas I can zoom right down to a clear street scene and yet others I cannot.

I note an interesting bit in the Wikipedia article on
Google Earth "In 2021 Google replaced its layers feature with a new one on its Google Earth software. This replacement consolidated some layers, but also removed some layers and features." If you have downloaded your Google Earth since this change was made there is possibly some conflict with the older files.

Hi Peter
Yeah, I hear they changed something last year. I now have SAS Planet. It's really going to take some head scratching to work this one out. Seems like a pretty amazing program as to what you can "grab" with it though.
Cheers

A mate is now telling me it is still possible. Using SASPlanet or similar. Though how to do it is
well beyond me at the moment. There is also no good online tutorials. Lots of bits if you already know. But nothing telling you from step one, using GE as the base map.
Help anyone....

When you look at Google earth images they are all cached on your computer.
So if you want to go into a remote area and use GE , before you go, whilst you have internet, look at all the areas of interest, zoom right in and all these will be cached on your computer, and you can look at them offline, I do this and it works fine.
Just be careful with programs like AVG which offer to clean and speed up your computer, it can identify these files as junk and remove them.

Thanks mate, Sounds good, but really only for a day trip or maybe a weekend. No real use for longer trips, where you aren't exactly sure where you want to go and just want a general area. Then there is the very real risk that they could just "disappear" right when you might need them. I'll keep working on it.
Cheers
